Umm...

When your phone breaks, so does your mp3 player.

Also.

When your mp3 player breaks, so does your phone.

Also.

iPods break or malfunction frequently.

And other technological devices don't? Good luck with customer service/repairs with other companies. The concept of a celluar phone/digital media device isn't exactly new so I don't understand how you feel that Apple's committed some sort of crime... It's unfortunate because Apple gets labelled as a gimmicky corportation when in reality, they're consistently putting out products that are more user-friendly and offer features which are usually far more useful and superior..

None of my friends and family have ever had iTunes/iPod problems, yet I keep hearing that problems are pervasive. :\ *confused* We have 2 PCs with iTunes libraries, and 2 iPods which use both computers... we've never had any problems with iTunes, synching, batteries, malfunctions....I'm much happier with my iPods than I ever was with our other mp3 players.

All cell phone/mp3 players are pretty stupid. The dean in the office I work in has a Blackberry, another one of those "shove everything possible into your cell phone" concepts. It's broken or the battery has crapped out or something a couple times and whenever it does she's absolutely crippled and can't accomplish anything.

And why is it that the first question everyone who I've known asked when they get an iPod is, "Is there any program that I can use instead of this damn iTunes crap?"

No company should put out a program like that without doing huge revisions as soon as possible to get a few better features such as batch tag editing (or even not relying on files being properly tagged).

Mine has malfunctioned twice, once the very first time I used it, before even put any music on it (it stayed stuck on the "do not disconnect" message until I shut down my computer after I used "safely remove this hardware" after charging the battery the first time). Neither were very big problems for me though.

I agree wholeheartedly. Every time I have had a camera phone, either has crapped out and taken the entire phone with it. I'd rather just have a standard one. My mom has a "not cool" phone, and it's basically the only one out of four that works.

Also, Apple tries to make you use their products if you get anything of theirs. I liked my other mp3 players because I could just drag and drop with the current operating system. With Apple, you have to use iTunes. Your own personal organization system is out the window and those playlists are worth nil. The last thing I want is a phone that has to use iTunes.

the last comment is incredibly far from the truth. Why? because the amount of ipods purchased greatly exceeds that of any other mp3 player. That's why you hear of more malfunctions, because they hold a major monopoly on mp3 players. It's a small percentage of a huge amount of ipods purchased. If any other company could even minorly compete with apple's ipod you'd here a lot about malfunctions with those brands too.

isnt the phone supposed to be a smart phone?
.....
wait
smart phones = microshit
and frankly if you're gonna spend that much just get a crackberry
but now RIM has serious competition.. (the smart phones all suck.. i dont care who makes them.. they suck)
oh and on a completely unrelated note..
the whole concept/need for a blackberry/iphone/smart phone does exist, just not with the general public, for the constantly on the go exec type tho.. they NEED to know whats going on in multiple places at once.. which is what these are designed for... unless you run a business and need to know what your employees are upto, have meetings daily, have inventory to keep track of etc, etc, you dont need one of these things lol
go fuck yourself.

I have an ipod. But I only know five other people with one. And three of those have broken. So...that's not a very good personal experience.

I don't think that's really that big of a deal, to be honest. I mean, it's not like you're going to think "Oh no, my phone's broken .... AND MY MP3 PLAYER! What a horrible day, losing two things at once!" People are used to thinking of them as two things now, but when you have that ONE product that does both, you're more apt to think "Oh no, my iPhone's broken. What a horrible day, I'll have to get it fixed." Yes, it sucks, but it sucks when anything breaks. I think the advantage of having the two products in one compact package is more than enough to compensate for the possibility of a slightly less convenient situation should it happen to break.

However, I typically carry more than 6 or 8 gigs of music with me (certainly a LOT more than that if I was to start including video), so I'll stick to my seemingly ancient 4th Gen black and white display iPod and my separate cell phone.

Having said that, this is a freaking awesome little piece of technology. Not only because of it's sleek design, and innovative touch-screen interface, but because of the fact that they've managed to make the iPhone so small, given the typical size of the separate products combined to create it.
