Me either. But I just can't get a handle on the gameplay. I like the FF games because of their battle system and the fact that I don't have to use both analog sticks at the same time. I'm not coordinated and I'm not good at real-time attack games. So I'm kind of annoyed by the fact that they made it half-and-half where you have to choose an action but then wait for your character to get to the point where they can make the action, all the while you're taking damage because you can't defend yourself!
Stupid battle system. I want my turn-based system back! I can't get past the first time in the desert because I just can't get a handle on the battle system.
Now that wasn't my complaint though now was it, my dear? My complaint is the lack of story. The battle system is great. I'm one of the few people sticking up for it on Digital Genesis. If you're having trouble with it, turn it to Wait mode instead of Active. Makes things a bit less rushed.
My problem is the lack of story. It starts off well enough, but after awhile it stops engaging you because you start spending way too much time in the field leveling up, going on hunts, etc. I'm at 84 hours and just a small percentage of that has been used for the story. I'm very surprised I have that many hours. That's the second most time I've ever spent on an FF game and it has the least amount of story from the Playstation generation of Final Fantasy games. Worst FF story from VII til now, for sure, which is a shame since the characters are actually quite good and the battle system is fun. I just want to beat the damn thing now though.

You thought VII had a bad story?
Christ, what about the travesty that was 8? I held out till the second disc hoping it would get better but about an hour in to disc 2 I just gave up. Hell.. I can't even remember the story, just that it left such a terrible taste in my mouth that now I take every opportunity that I can to trash the game... like right now. Plus, Squall is a giant douchebag.
Edit: I actually can't remember how far into disc 2 I got, but the only thing I really remember is finding out that everyone apparently grew up with everyone else in some orphanage or something and then they all forgot for whatever reason. And I guess the only reason I remember it is because I think it's so ridiculously stupid.
...But back to XII
I'm only at about 9 hours in XII (and that's probably because I've left the game on pause for a while when I get pulled away to do other things) and so far it hasn't been too bad. I'm just doing a bunch of hunts now to get some cash. That's basically my only beef so far, it seems too hard to get gil and I'm stuck with crappy weapons and armour. Other than that, though, I'm really liking the gameplay.

I love the Wii......and I'll have "Twiilight Princess" tomorrow, under the tree. I'm friggen stoked.
Wii Sports, although simplistic, is sooooooooooo much fun!
On that note; I'm probably the only Xbox360 owner that has not played "Gears of War" yet. haha!

This is true, there was a period before Christmas where I'd play that game 4-6 hours a day... I've had like a billion people add me to their friendslist and try to get me to join their clans to enter online tournaments... Well I'm entered into one tournament right now to win a Wii... I guess we'll see how that goes.

The graphics are amazing for a PS2 game and I <3 the battle system. Fast-paced and more intense without being completely chaotic. It's kinda like KOTOR's battle system, only better.
More like an updated battle system from the previous Final Fantasy game, FFXI.

Yeah, I don't mind it at all, they're just updating their battle system from Final Fantasy XI and giving you more control. It's better to get something fresh than take a step backwards... and you don't have a lot of control in FFXI, compared to the new battle system... so everyone who's complaining about the battle system either hated the FFXI's battle system (I personally found it boring and repetitive, but didn't exactly hate it) one or hasn't played it and isn't used to the new style... well... not so new... since FFXI came out like 4 years ago already.

XII even has shades of X-2's battle system. Despite the silly nature of that game, the battle system was probably the best one ever implented in an FF. It just sort of got wasted on a forgetful side game.
No. What I meant was this game has the worst story of any Playstation generation Final Fantasy. It's still going to have a better story that a number of the older 16-bit or older games, so I can't come out and say it's the worst story in an FF ever. VII's story was great, of course. So was VIII's in reality. IX and X faultered a bit, but their storylines are masterpieces next to XII.

I guess I really haven't gotten far enough in to XII to comment on the story. I'm not usually a fan of political-type stories, but I'll take that any day over "Omg i once was teh lonar but tehn I met u Rinowa adn now eye am a nice guy lawls!"
Like, maybe it's just me, but I play FF for the epic 'save the world' stuff. I can tolerate a -leetle- bit of a love story- I liked how they did it in VII, where it most definitely was not the main focus of the story, but VIII just.. blergh. It turned me off of the series up until XII because everyone kept saying how fun the battle system was and assuring me that Vaan was not nearly as annoying as Squall (which I am greatful for).
I find it kinda funny that XII was the first one (I'm not counting XI since.. it's an MMO, not Final Fantasy) that Nomura didn't have a big influence in and it's getting such high marks from everyone. We'll see how XIII measures up...
