This made me kind of depressed

Post by oma_15 »

On the live DVD at 45:39, at the very end of One Man Army when Raine sings "I don't wanna remember falling...for your...lies"

For the " for your lies" part I noticed to mic in nowhere near his mouth, it's down by his side

I know it's just editing, but it just makes it feel fake, or maybe I'm crazy :( :uh:

welcome to the wonderful world of over-production!

they took audio and video from different shows and mashed them together, possibly along with some studio dubbing

I think they used the soundcheck recording or something like that for the sound on that song. Cause when he is in the audience you cant hear them singing....but when he goes into the audience at a real show you can hear everyone around him.

Meh, it's all real, just pieced together a bit. I'm sure every single other "live" DVD out there is exactly the same. So I'm not terribly disappointed (or surprised).

not necessarily. I'm sure there are plenty of live DVD's or otherwise officially released live recordings that, while mixed so everything is audible, it's all raw recording

the tragically hip, that night in toronto.
i quote, from the preface in their 'hipenonymous' thinger
we've never done a DVD where nothing has been cut out. All the songs are included and what you get is the whole show, nothing taken away between songs nor has anything been added or overdubbed by any of the five guys on stage...That Night in Toronto is just that, one night. Not a composite of two or three shows...

i believe the hip did a live DVD just how it should be done - a full, live show, and not edited to hell and back.

I think we've discussed this at length in another thread. There are many parts where you can tell there have been edits, with the most obvious being the drums entering early on IAH because the crowd doesn't sing the words properly.

I think, however, that most commercially produced DVDs that are live aren't really completely live. I mean, anything by any major pop star or rapper or whatever I'm sure are either dubbed, or cut or what have you.

So while I'm not surprised to find DVDs like The Hip's that was referenced above, I'm also not surprised that OLP's live DVD was not produced the same way.

that would involve having to listen to the cd, which I won't be doing anytime soon, so you won't get an exact time.

However, when the last line of the chorus changes to

Is anybody low
Has anybody painted fear on the bedroom walls
That save us from many

Most people get that part wrong and re-sing the normal chorus, as you probably know if you've gone to any of their concerts. On Live, during the song Jer comes in early on the last line to drown out the crowd. The volume of his kit seems to be a bit louder than normal, and in all the shows I've been to I've never seen him come into that part early.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

That always bothered me - if you're going to sing along to the song at least know the right words. It's not that hard.
