Critics are always harsh on the good ones, and give undeserved praise to the shit movies.

Lady in the Water confuses me.
The previews and adds don't agree with eachother at all. At first the previews were all fairy-tale like with Josh Groban playing in the background and everything.
But then the TV ads made it look like some horror/thriller with a cliche little-girl-whispering-in-the-background.
What's the movie actually like?

the zitfaced kid had no trees in his backyard, so the grass just grew taller and filled every open space with tall, thick, green stalks. one month, it was up to his knees. the next, it was up to his waist. then almost to his neck. the zitfaced kid was happy to see the grass growing so freely. the neighbours thought it was unsightly, but he didn't care. he decided it was his destiny to care for and nuture this great plot of plain grass.

the grass slowly grew as tall as the fences enclosing the zitfaced kid's backyard, and would grow no more. the zitfaced kid opened his window on a dewy morning. he was proud and happy and all was at peace. he breathed in deeply. he could feel the grass essence curling into his nose and windpipe and lungs and heart and soul. he knew that part of him had a special connection with the grass. had become the grass. Grassboy, that was him. in fact, i will refer to his as Grassboy from now on, since it's shorter to type than the zitfaced kid. Grassboy had fulfilled his destiny. he decided to go outside and embrace all his grass, because he was that crazy and obsessed.

he swam carefully through his yard, embracing individual stalks with love and taking a hell of a long time.
WHEN SUDDENLY THE BIRDS STOPPED SINGING.
not that there were that many around, since he had no trees in his yard and the grass was too tall for the birds to fly in and out of without causing injury or mussing up their feathers (you know how birds hate that), but yeah, there were birds on the neighbours' trees and in their yards and stuff. and they suddenly stopped singing.

Grassboy stopped suddenly, his arms around a thin stalk of grass. the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, and all those other clichéd body signals that mean a person is scared manifested themselves. the silence pressed in on his ears. in fact, he was so engrossed in this strange feeling of pressure on his ears caused by the recent lack of all sound that it was a total surprise when he noticed
THERE WERE LOTS OF PAIRS OF EYES WATCHING HIM WITHIN THE GRASS! RED ONES, HAZEL ONES, ETC!
OH NO!

so terrified was Grassboy (i almost typed Grassbody, hahaha) that he RRRRAN back into his house, accidentally trampling a lot of his treasured grass in his way. when he was safe inside his house again, he drank a glass of warm homo milk to calm himself down, and looked out the window, panting hard. (no, i don't know where his parents have been all this time, or why they haven't listened to the neighbours' complaints about their unsightly backyard, or why they let their son do this for months and months and months and months, or why they aren't around to comfort their son who has been scared half to death by eyes lurking in their backyard, or why the hell they have homo milk in their house and they let their nineteen-year-old son drink it to calm himself down) he couldn't see the eyes anymore. what he saw was the trail of grass he had trampled without thinking. his eyes welled with tears and he felt a part of his soul die. really.
