I need facts about the PPU.
I'm trying to gather information about it. So far I know this:
Membership was $26 Canadian/ $21 US per year
New membership packages included (in 1997):
a t-shirt
sticker(s)
exclusive autographed photo
access to contests
discounted rates on merchandise
The fanclub newsletter was mailed out quarterly.
A CD or video was given out about once a year. These included:
Live 1995
Julia (piano version)
1998 Holiday Greeting VHS
Imagine
Right Behind You
Gravity sampler (many people never received this)
There was a private concert in Toronto on February 13, 1997 for fanclub and radio contest winners.
In 1997, someone made a post in the TH mailinglist saying when they received their membership package, there was a letter with it saying they should have gotten an OLP poster with it as well, but it would be mailed out later.
During the winter 1998 Canadian tour, PPU members were allowed access to soundcheck/meet and greets. This was not a contest. It was open to all members.
During the winter 2000 Canadian tour, the PPU had contests in support of the tour. I don't know the details of the contests though.
What else am I missing? I'm sure Gail mentioned having multiple pictures sent to her from the PPU, so was that something that wasn't just in the initial package that members received when they signed up? Were there any other sorts of OLP goodies that were mailed out?
What sort of content was in the newsletter? How long were they?
Were there PPU contests or anything for the 2000 club tour? Or were all the contests for that open to everyone?
Were PPU members allowed into soundcheck for other shows or was that just during the 1998 Canadian tour?

i joined in 1999, i believe. this is what i received when i joined:
i didn't receive a shirt, but that might have been because i didn't join when the ppu first started. i did, however, receive a card with my name and ppu # on it, which i know that i still have. i just can't find it.
afterwards, i received the following:
the newsletter that i have is 6 pages double-sided, so 12 pages of content. the content includes a summary of what's in the booklet, poems from the band and the fans, letters from fans, quotes from fans takes from the CC, fan stats (boys vs. girls, the type of internet browser people use, etc), there's a map of different tour locations, and there's also a letter from mike. the last page has the details of the ppu, and pictures and details of the last contest and its winners.
i also know for a fact that there was a soundcheck contest for the 2000 concert. every other member that called into the ppu won a soundcheck pass. i know this because raffia and another girl from the cc got those, and i have no idea why i didn't. as far as i can remember, i didn't even call. i think there was some sort of qualification thing and i didn't qualify or something, although thinking back if i had called i probably would've gotten in.
why, are you planning on restarting the ppu, josh?

They have a nice list of content that is supposed to be on their site, and a promise of contests for VIP passes and chances to meet the fans (I thought perhaps they were going to let everyone into soundcheck like the PPU did) if you get the $35 membership instead of the $25 membership. The company that runs the fansite is crap though, and they haven't come through on most of the things that the site is supposed to offer.
The reason I'm asking is to form a detailed comparison between the PPU, the free online fanclub from 2002 to early 2005, and the current fanclub.

Do they still do that? Or is the PPU REALLY old and defunct?

What's the red and blue cd? Imagine?
And yeah, the PPU doesn't exist anymore.
What about the OMA patch? Did that go out with the PPU?

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

Yeah, the red and blue CD is Imagine. I received most of those items, but not a t-shirt. I have that long, skinny poster and i do have a signed 8x10 black and white photo and the Imagine CD and the Right Behind You single. I received one newsletter--the same one in the photo.
The PPU was must better than .net. hands down.
