[glow=red]text[/glow] I got this email today: [glow=red]text[/glow]
Hey Husain. It's gonna be tough right now in terms of finding hours for you. Everyone in the
store seems to be content with the schedule they have right now and I'm pretty happy with it as
well. on top of that, Lisa and Phil have also asked me for hours this summer and due to the fact
they have been with the store longer, I'd have to give seniority to them. I don't know if I'll be
able to accomodate them either.
Sorry for not being very helpful. I'm not sure how vacant Booster Juice shifts will be for now, and
although i may need you in the summer, I advise you not to rely on my scheduling for your sole
source of summer income.
If you need a reference, I'd be more than happy to help you out with that.
Keep in touch.
Mike

Hi Mike,
I really don’t know what to make of the e-mail you last sent me, besides the fact that I shouldn’t expect to be working at the store anytime soon. I have to say that I’m a little disappointed, but I also understand that it is for the best. I think I’ve had enough of your managerial incompetence. The sad matter of the fact is Mike that not everyone is happy with the new scheduling. You see, by saying that everyone is happy with the schedule you would have to include the entire staff; clearly you do not consider me to be a part of the staff. I find it to be astounding that you choose to give two people who decided to disappear during the year shifts when I have been asking you for hours for months, leave that as it may, they may very well have seignior. Personally I don’t give a damn. Here’s the thing, the issue at hand has nothing to do with seignior, if it did then Alex would not be working as much as he is. I have nothing against the kid, besides the fact that he is in high school with no discernable need for the money like a university student like myself does. No Mike, I think that there is something else behind this issue, namely your blaring inability to manage a minor Booster Juice location. What is it? Are you just too lazy to retrain me? Do you just have a personal grudge against me? I don’t understand where you’re coming from. It is on this note that I tell you to take your minimum wage job and shove it. You can go to hell; I have no ambition to ever see you again. You can expect a complaint filed against the location with Human Resources Canada.
Good day.
Reza

yeah, but see the reason he doesn't want to give me hours because he thinks that i stole stamps from the store and sold an entire roll for $100. it wasn't me, hell i even know who it was but i can't say because i'm not a rat. we didn't get any breaks while working, i have been asking for hours since december. on top of all of that, he has been telling me that i'll be getting hours 'next week' for the past couple of months. i could have been looking for a new job for those two months. i don't enjoy getting pushed around.
if i were to post all of the e-mails i've recieved from him over the past few months there is no way you would say that i'm being unfair.
btw, phil and lisa dissapeared for the entire year and decided to show up during the summer for hours and when he says that he isnt sure that he can accomodate them...they got about 20 hrs this week.

I also wasn't expecting such a harsh email reply back to your boss. He seemed friendly and professional about it. But, after reading your other reason, I guess I kinda understand where you're coming from. Perhaps you could have been more.. professionally polite? Well, I guess it doesn't matter anyways.
I don't do sigs.

Yeah, that was a really immature response. Honestly. Everyone has an employer they don't like, so you suck it up and deal with it. Just because you think the guy is a jerkoff doesn't give you the right to dissrespect him in the way you did. And what is unfortunate is that this sort of thing can follow you around. He could have given you a reference for another job but you just ruled out that option. And what happens if a potential future employer inquires about this position? What if they ask why you don't have a reference from there? What if they call about your experience without your knowledge?
Right now I have a manager at my store that thinks I'm a complete idiot. Every time I screw up he'll be standing there to tell me. He thinks I've talked customers out of sales and he would probably never care if I quit tomorrow. He told me that my entire university career was a waste of time and probably thinks that I'm barely above retarded. I think he is a single-minded douchebag that has his head so far up his ass he hasn't seen sunlight in years. But I would never ever consider telling him that. He may be a dick but he's still in control of my paycheck. You have to be aware that having an opinion doesn't mean its smart to share it.
Giving older employees seniority is not that uncommon, so learn to deal with it. Last week a girl that hadn't worked in my store in 4 monthes had 20 hours and I had 4. Want to know what thats all about? Seniority. I know, shocking. Fair? Not at all.
If he wasn't giving you hours you should have looked for a job sooner. You said he kept saying that you would get more hours next week. Did you ever question your hours? Did he ever explain why he didn't pull through? The store is obviously overs-staffed but if an employer made an agreement with a staff member you have a right to see that through. However, if you don't like getting 'pushed around' become self-employed, because thats the only way you are going to avoid that. The entire point of working for someone means that you are working for them.
Oh and what is wrong with equiring about stolen store property? No one likes being accused of something but if you didn't do it, than it shouldn't matter. Why the hell are you after him for trying to find out what happened? Wouldn't you do the same thing if you were in his position? And if he really did think it was you, he could just fire you. This whole thing just sounds like you are getting your back up over nothing.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

I probably would not have handled it that way...but hey, everyone has their own style.
I hate to be mean, but if you were getting so few hours and he kept promising but not delivering, that should have been a clue to look for a new job. Hell, minimum wage jobs are easy enough to walk away from - I took a job at a bookstore as an assistant manager but kept my options open and as soon as a better offer came up I took it and gave my notice. It was that simple.
His email was mature and responsible - yours was rash and immature. While you may not want the reference, truth is, if you put that job down on your future resumes the people you are trying to get to hire you are probably going to call that location and ask about your employment there. Around here, all they're required to do is confirm that you were employed there, however previous employers are more than likely to give out information you might not want your prospective employers to have.
I understand the anger. Trust me, I was jerked around for 6 years and I never once stood up for myself. But now I have a great team of references because of that, and they helped me get my current (well-paying) job. So yeah. Just my point of view.

well wait a minute, he think Reza stole some stamps or something. I mean honestly, how good a reference would this guy have supplied? I'm guessing not a good one. And when Reza does quit, ( or he already has) there's no doubt that when he's gone and will not be there to defend himself that this guy will in fact pin the stolen stuff on him. Not to be mean or to smear him, but because it;s the easy way out.
I like the response, sometimes management gets too damn up their own ass about their jobs and such. every once and a while you gotta let them know, dude, it's just a job at a fast food place....fuck off. I've done that a few times when i was young and it hasn't caught up with me. you'll be alright.

Thanks, and I can easily ask for a reference from the assisstant manager who I really get along with. She was actually the one who told me that he thinks it was me. She was just as disgusted as I was. Also, people don't really care about references from fast-food places, they would rather verify employment and they can do that easily through my SIN number. Yeah, I suppose I've burned a couple of bridges (with the manager and the owner; his father) but I've also preserved my relationship with all the other employees. Also, I don't think someone should be granted senority at a store if they literally quit (and I mean quit with a resignation letter and all) and then decide to return months afterwards. I think that he still thinks I stole the tickets and doesn't have the balls/evidence to fire me for it so he tried to get me to quit. It worked.

however, it's against the law for him to say that reza stole something when he has no proof.

It is not against the law for him to question his employees and ask if they suspect a member of the team, nor is it against the law for him to suspect Reza.
What IS illegal is his slandering of Reza's name, by announcing publicly with no proof that Reza did in fact steal the stamps. It is also illegal for him to fire Reza without proof of the theft. Neither of these things I saw happening - at least from the way Reza wrote about it. What I read that as was the manager asking his team what they thought about who stole the stamps, which is not illegal.

Sure, he said he'll be a reference, but he also said for months that Reza would be getting more hours. I wouldn't want to rely on this guy's good word if I were Reza and looking for another job.
