Lifetime Achievment Award: Jim J-Neli (J-Neli). The subject of many moderator threads, Jim is widely recognized as one of the front runner's of CM political and debate history. Jim constantly challenged the members of the CM to stop and think, teaching us all how to back up what we say. One of Jim's final acts as a regular member was the creation of the CM directory, a shrine to members in the top post count, and many of our special friends.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Josh Day (faninor). Josh's dedication to acquiring OLP related audio bootlegs since the creation of Nate's original FTP server has provided the Hub with countless recordings to share and enjoy over the years. With months of hard work and the help of Nikki, Josh coded and created the current Hubsite. It is the most comprehensive listing of information related to OLP bootlegs and lyrics. Josh has been a tremendous help to tapers, loaning out equipment so that new recordings can be brought to the hub, for all members to enjoy.

Ladies and gentlemen, thanks for coming out tonight! Have a safe trip home and we'll see you next year!

How to follow up last year's speech... here goes...

I didn't really post here much since September, but come exam time (which oddly enough happens at the same time as the Oskars) I found myself compelled to post once again. The CM has helped me choose what I want to do with my life by making me realize just how passionate I am about politics. People like Reno, Chris, Doug, Corey, Sinead, and many others who would mosey on in to the heated debates made me think far too often about theory, policy, war and government, that I found myself thinking about these issues while brushing my teeth, walking to catch the bus and while laying in my bed before I would go to sleep. At the time I was a psych major, and 3 years later I have moved onto political science and most of my days involve reading and writing about politics, which is something that I can at least in part say was due to CMers. So of course, in an over-dramaticized fashion, I share this award with all those political junkies.

The politics section kind of died this year... I think we all got tired of what bush was up to this week, but the thought that the USA might attack Iran with nukes brings me hope that it will one day return to glory. Yes folks, something good can come out of nuclear warfare.

As for getting a lifetime achievement award, I can't say much more than "cool". The CM directory was a lot of work, but I'm glad it was the success it was (and that it's moved on into far more inclusive hands). I didn't really think that when I was jokingly making a case for getting a lifetime achievement award that it would be taken seriously, but it does explain why Sinead refused to tell me who won it.

I still think that if I was around more often I would have won the most controversial CMer award that I claimed I was going to win during my speech last year, but there is always 2007, and whenever there are exams to be studied for or papers to write you can best be assured that I'll make the odd post here and there that will get the noobs riled up, but all of you regulars will know better.

So with that, thanks folks!
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.
