ATTN: PEOPLE WHO GO TO QUEENS!

Post by dream in japanese »

ok..so i'm like 95% sure at this time that i will be attending Queens in the fall for teachers college. i have some questions that if anyone could answer would be greatly appreciated. and any other information you could give me would be awesome. k...first off, does anyone know anything about the faculty of education at queens? anything about the program or anything? or about the west end campus? how far is that from the main campus...is it walkable, are there bus'? secondly...do you know anything about short term residences? i'll only be on campus for alternating months because my placements will be at home...so any recommendations on good short term residences or anything like that would be greatly appreciated. anything else i should know about queens? i'm kinda nervous about making this decision and i have to let them know in 11 days and i've never even been to kingston so anything you could tell me would be helpful!

Where will you be comming from? West campus is about a 15 minute walk with both city buses and shuttle busses running to main campus. As for temp housing you couid contact residences, the have apts at west campus which could be very convienent. You might contact other education students about altenating housing/split an apt.
As for the program I do know it is well respected and has undergone a number of changes in the past few years. It is very competitive to get in so well done!! if you want to pm me feel free and I will give you my email or msn. I actually live about a km from west campus so i have a pretty good idea.

YAY another CMer at Queen's. One day we will take over this school. Oh yes, it will be ours.

West campus isn't too far. It's walkable, though most people just bus it. The buses are free with your student card, and there are a number of buses that will get you between West and Main campus in just a couple of minutes.

I don't know a whole lot about the ConEd program, other than that it's competative so I'm impressed that you got in. Good job! :D My old highschool teacher was teaching a course last fall, so if you happen to get any classes with Dan Lalonde (if he's teaching again next year), you're a lucky, lucky girl.

Queen's is really a great place to be. Granted, I haven't actually attended any other universities to have a frame of reference, but I love it here. The campus is beautiful. You'll soon become friends with the JDUC (and a plethora of acronyms). Main campus is only a few minutes from the main street downtown, so there's always lots of shopping, restaurants, entertainment and plenty of nightlife. It's also right on the waterfront. It's not really good for much over the winter - which is mostly when you'll be here - but it sure is pretty. :D

Josh and Jess will be able to tell you more about res stuff since I'm living off-campus (yes, I'm a FYNIR! - again, you'll grow to love the acronyms).

You should consider doing one of the campus tours if possible (after you decide to come here, obviously). It'll give you a bit of an idea what Queen's is like so that you're not coming in to something completely unknown.

In any case, you'll have a team of CMers to help you out when you get here. :D

i bought a kill mcgill t-shirt and wore it to my cousins wedding
i was a hit
sorta
well
some folks liked it
others didnt
my cousins went to mcgill
my cousin's wife went to mcgill for undergrad and queens for medicine
half of her family went to queens exclusively and the other half to mcgill exclusively
twas fun times.. indeed... especially when some random drunk old guy (he looked to be in his 50s and i didnt know him.. i think an uncle or some such of my cousins wife but i have no clue i was kinda drunk too) and i sang the oil thigh (is that how its even spelled? i forget now)
go fuck yourself.

no one likes queens except people who go there.
you have to, you just have to trust me
whoever i was then i can't ever be again
the faith you've found i've never felt
the terror held in wedding bells
the comfort in "there's no one else"
the truth be told, i'm never going to know

Cocky much?! That's so not true.

I got accepted as my third choice, but refused to go anywhere unless I got my first choice.
