Oh, and I never thought I'd say this, but I really wish my period would hurry up and start. I've never felt as bloated as I did yesterday and today's not much better. I just want it to hurry up and be over.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

that's true...the female body wasn't really designed to have period after period, it was designed to reproduce...actually, it's a rather impractical mechanism when you think about it. *ponders*

wait...why am i thinking about this...i have a french test this afternoon :freak:

However, the female system is in such an incredibly delicate balance as it is that there's just no telling what taking the pill constantly, without breaks, forever, would do to it. There's also new research out that suggests that beyond being a byproduct of the monthly cycle, your period actually plays an important roll in flushing out toxins and sperm, and reduces your chances of contracting a sexually transmitted disease.

This is gonna sound gross... but, I always feel cleaner right after I've had it.

You know it's bad when I'm prefacing a statement in the period thread with "this is gonna sound gross".

I think you do get it when you're breastfeeding because it is possible to get pregnant while you are still breastfeeding one child. The only time you're lucky enough to not get it is when you are before that age, monopausal, and pregnant. Or sick. At least that is what they told me in phys. Phys is the reason I would never take the pill if I can avoid it! After you have to learn how insanely delicate it is, like Alex said, and how easily it can go wrong...you just don't mess with that if you can help it!

well, according to my maternal and infant nutrition textbook (which i have no idea why i still have because i dropped the class the moment i learned i could):

"After the birth, the return of fertility (through monthly ovulation) is delayed in most women during breasfeeding, particularly with exclusive breastfeeding. This delay in ovulation results in longer intervals between pregnancies. Breastfeeding alone, however, is not as effective as other available birth control methods. Consequently, many health care professionals in the United States do not suggest breastfeeding as a option for birth control."

Okay , if we were living off the land as tribes in Africa do, then no you will not get your period while you are breastfeeding. In general the level of protien intake strongly affects when you get your period, so that when you are getting a small amount and your body is producing milk it doesnt have enough to spare. Therefore you dont get your period.

For the most part women in North America dont get their periods when breast feeding but will often start again nearing the end of the first year. Your body has gained enough strength to produce again. Myself I started getting a period the month after my son stopped nursing, which was 11 months. My mother on the other hand was incredibly fertile and was pregnant again afer 4 months ( for 4 children in a row) so it is truely individual. For the most part it is safe to say that when you are nursing you don't get your period.

Oh yeah another myth is that you cant get pregnant when you have your period, you can, I did. Not a good method of birth control, and we should all be using condoms anyway because STI's are way too rampant among youth today.

The incidence of syphillis in 20-something north americans is experiencing a sharp increase due to growing reliance on the pill alone during a long-term relationship. When they've been together a while, people stop using condoms, figuring the pill will protect them, and then one unknowingly has it or gets it by cheating, and voila.

it actually kind of reminds me of that artist lady who made paintings out of her period. i posted that a while back in this thread.

i stumbled upon it on the internet and i remember thinking, "oh, what an interesting shade of red. and texture...oh wait..........uh...ew. :uh:"

for the expansion of your knowledge: she mixed it with egg to make it keep better, and water to thin it out.

See, I get that it's a symbol of femininity or whatever ... but you don't see men going around making sculptures out of used condoms ... at least I hope not.

Feel free to GIS that, Jen. :P
