So I go to class today like nothing is happening and totally forget its St. Paddy's day, and I'm looking around class and thinking 'boy theres an awful lot of green today.' Then my prof comes in and says 'oh my god, I'm amazed you're all here. I guess this is the break between drinking at the breezeway and drinking at the breezeway.' (the breezeway is the on campus bar) and tells the class this story of her running into a former student who went to a bar (O'Reillys) this morning at 7:30 for brunch and there was a band playing there by 9:00. When my prof saw her she was like "are you already drunk then?" and the girl was like "of course totally!" Haha. So yeah. Then she did attendance and told us all to go drinking.
I like how this is a reason to cancel class now.
-Sarah Goodbye you liar, Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything Then you think you will inspire Take apart your head (and I wish I could inspire) Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.
I do find it funny how this seems to be celebrated much more in north america than here.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.
And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

When I was in 3rd year university, we were all drinking at 11am when the campus pub opened. Very few people were in class, everyone was loaded. And somehow... someone screwed up and planned for that to be the day that high school students and their parents visited campus to take a tour, see the residences, sit in on class (which were mostly empty).
I will never forget the confused and disgusted looks on parents faces when they walked past the pub and saw drunk students dancing to Irish music on the bar before noon. I have a feeling many of those high schoolers that day did not come to my uni
<I><B>"I know this sounds corny, and I might be a little bit drunk, but honest to god, thank you everybody"</B></I>
(the day where high school kids come visit!!!!!!!)
hahahahhaha... i wish i was there.. just to see their faces!! that was such poor planning... lol
you have to, you just have to trust me
whoever i was then i can't ever be again
the faith you've found i've never felt
the terror held in wedding bells
the comfort in "there's no one else"
the truth be told, i'm never going to know
Today I claim my birthright of getting smashed and getting free kisses.

That sort of makes sense though, doesn't it. Emigrants from a country are more likely to bolster traditions related to their homeland, to maintain the connection.

Well, there are lots of Irish people here too - though they can jump on a 'plane and go home for the weekend, so yeah, it's totally different.

In Ireland... "in the recent past, Saint Patrick's Day was celebrated only as a religious holiday. Until the 1970s, Irish laws actually mandated that pubs be closed on March 17. Although secular celebrations now exist, the holiday is still a religious observance in some areas."
So it was technically more of a holy day, while already North America had turned it into a day of drinking
