K, take a slab of salmon, but it in a tin-ish pan. Spoon out some butter, throw that on top. Squirt on some lemon juice. (ours was a little slushy, but that was probably because of the sub-zero tempurature) Shake on a little salt and pepper. Place over camp fire. Eat.

WARNING: They're addictive and you might end up eating the whole batch yourself. (You think I'm joking, but it's true. At Christmas, my uncle kept eating them and was yelling at himself that he had to stop. And my cousin who NEVER eats dessert ate a bunch.)
Molasses Sugar Cookies
¾ cup shortening 1 cup sugar ¼ cup molasses 1 egg 2 teaspoons baking soda 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour ½ teaspoon cloves ½ teaspoon ginger 1 teaspoon cinnamon ½ teaspoon salt
Melt shortening in 3 or 4 quart saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat, let cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg; beat well. Sift together flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt; add to first mixture. Mix well; chill. Form in 1 inch balls, roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheets 2 inches apart. Bake in moderately hot oven 375°F for 8-10 minutes.
Note from Nikki: I always cook them for 8 minutes. They turn out soft and wonderful that way. I also use salted butter rather than shortening.
I made these again!

i made some soup from scratch today. it took me nearly two hours but it was totally worth it. here's the recipe:
CREAM OF LENTIL WITH SPICY SAUSAGE
6 cups (1.5L) chicken, beef, or vegetable stock
1 cup (250mL) green lentils
1 cup (250mL) spicy sausage, diced
1 cup (250mL) potatoes, diced
1/4 cup (60mL) 35% cream
3 tbsp (45mL) carrot, diced
2 tbsp (30mL) onion, diced
2 tbsp (30mL) olive oil
1/2 tsp (2.5mL garlic, chopped
1 pinch thyme
1 bay leaf
salt and pepper
In a saucepan, saute sausage in oil until well cooked. set aside. in the same saucepan, saute carrot and onion. add stock, garlic, herbs, lentils, potatoes, and bring to a boil. reduce heat, cover and simmer 1 hour. remove bay leaf and mix in blender. add cream, cooked sausage, seasoning, and mix. serves 6.
it's worth the time. i promise. mm.

Homemade soup is always so much better than packaged.
I could totally make that with my fake sausage. Hmm.

Slice your tomatoes or cube them either way works, some balsamic vinegar, garlic, fresh basil, fresh ground pepper, drizzle with olive oil, crumble some feta and maybe add some black olives. Let it baste for an hour or so. I just keep adding tomatoes to the marinade cause it is soo tasty

I will! Someday when I've got energy/time. Hopefully I have enough "sausage" crumbles left.
Those tomatoes sound good.

I think you might even be able to do it, Johnny. Just make sure you measure properly and set your oven to the right temp, and you can't really screw them up. You basically just throw everything in a bowl and mix.

We all were. It was like watching a baby bird finally learn to fly after slamming itself into the ground 500 times.
