JC: OK, let's shift gears here. You have a country album out now. What's a Canadian guy like you doing cutting a country album?

RM: Country music isn't limited. It isn't just from the south. Obviously, it has a history and comes from all over the place. Canada's no exception to that. Anne Murray is a country artist. I don't limit my taste. There's some jazz that I like and there's some opera. I've been listening to what was essentially country music, but it crossed over to rock. I've never lost my taste for bluegrass. I think there's a real relationship between bluegrass and jazz. The finest musicians are around. I think Alison Krauss and her band are the best today. The same goes for Rick Skaggs and his band. In the last couple years, because my daughter was listening to a lot of it, I just started writing these tunes. [I'd] read The New York Times and The Washington Post, and just started writing.

JC: How long did it take you to make the album?
RM: A few months. It wasn't like it came from a studio with a release date. It happened by accident. I've always been bad at planning things. I think on one side, people who know me are surprised that I would call this thing a country album instead of a comedy album. Then, there are people who only know me as an actor, which is not really what I am. It's just I fell into a bunch of movies that kind of fit in my life. It made sense to do them in the '80s. Folks who know me think it's hilarious. And there are the country stations that have respect for the genre. I hope we can find some sort of base. In terms of the commercial [aspect], it's not done for those reasons. It's always good if it's exposed, and liked...

JC: Do you plan on touring?
RM: You can't tour without a band, and I don't have a band. Nobody's asked me...
