That would be how many of us Americans felt a year and a half ago. We had a big election party in our college common room and as the night went on it gradually devolved into people either getting more and more drunk or breaking down into tears. Hopefully your leader can't/won't do as much damage as ours has in the past 5 years, though...

I find it interesting (and very ass-backwards) that many supporters of this party think we should take back a woman's right to choose because that is killing... but we should also strenthen our military and so that we can go overseas and kill people when GWB asks for help. :wtf:

Every month thru my volunteer work I see what is happening to a select group of children who were born into families that did not want them. Most of the mothers would have had an abortion if it was an option. Some of the children are critically ill, suffering every day of their lives, some are starving, and I have watched some slowly die.

This is not even an argument I want to get into.

The debate over abortion is more about defining the fetus as human. Abortion supporters are typically of the opinion that the fetus is not a person (though opinions differ on the stage at which the fetus "becomes" human). So the comparison you are using doesn't exactly coincide with their view. Though I understand that both are murder in your view, assuming that others are being hypocritical doesn't exactly follow, since in their view these are two different matters.

As for Abortion, as much as I am against it, the law will not change. If they even brought up a vote, the next vote you'd see would be the Non Confidence motion from any of the other parties, and we'd have another election on our hands.

I think the pro-life conservatives are dirty hypocrites. They support the murder of their own troops, and of the iraqi people, but god save the BABIES. If we don't let all the babies live, how will we have troops for the next generation of soliders killed in battle!

ALSO. Why is it we have all forgotten, that it is our MP's responsibility to voice what his or her constituents want. NOT what his or her own goddamn opinion is! There was an opinion poll done in my riding, about Gay Marriage. 72% of the people said Yes, We support it. Yet, my lovely lovely Conservative MP, James Lunney(Backbencher of the YEAR), voted no.

You do realize that only 1% of all abortions are a result of rape. Most abortions are carried out because the boyfriend doesn’t want the child or the child would be some sort of inconvenience. Saying that the abortion law should exist for occurrences such as rape is a weak argument. There are other institutions in place that can deal with unwanted pregnancy like adoption agencies. Secondly, a child is a "parasite" of sorts whether it is in the womb or living outside it. It still relies on someone to live.

I know what you're saying, and I definitely understand your view on this. However, scientists (which is an odd choice for a group to cite, I think) aren't exactly decided on this debate either. Yes, life begins at conception. But I believe the argument is that there are a number of living things that aren't human and that aren't valued the way human life is. The difference here, of course, is the potential to become a full undeniable human. Question is whether the potential alone is enough to justify being human. In this it becomes more of a philosophical debate than a scientific one.

And I'm not sure if you were directing that last comment towards me, but do not assume ignorance when someone offers a different view. I'm not even debating you, I'm just offering up the opposing view since your reasoning before was looking at a very very simplified form of the argument.

Very true, and yet approx 1/5th of children waiting to be adopted last year were actually placed with adoptive parents. And each year that they wait the possibility of being adopted decreases and they get bounced around from foster home to foster home. Many of these children meet with many potential parents, only to be rejected over and over again.

And in Canada the number of children waiting to be adopted each year grows steadily. A growing percentage of parents looking to adopt children think that only bad/ill/older children are awaiting adoption here, so they look overseas instead.

Not to mention, the highest percentage of Abortions are second time or more. My mother is an ER Nurse, and we had the Abortion fight a couple of nights ago. She agreed with me, that hugely it is second time or more, and said that she has seen many people in the ER who have had EIGHT or more Abortions.

Having said that, pro-abortionists don't need to worry, the issue won't be tackled. The conservatives are Pro Abortion themselves, perhaps not as a personal opinion, but because they won't have the glorious power if they try to take abortion down. As I said before, it would result in an immediate nonconfidence vote, and we'd be right into another election. Harper may be alot of things, but he isn't stupid.
