Well, I know I've seen a few cases of that kind of things in the news. Maybe he did too and got the idea from that. But we really have no way of knowing.

yes there is. whether it's the truth or not is a different story, but at 15 you're definitely smart enough to figure out that kind of stuff.

sad truth is, when i was that age, i had planned something of the sort.

That is completely untrue. A 15 year old teenage boy is more than capable of planning an event like that out.

it's too bad the kid died. it's horrible that some people never realize that the torment of adolescence ends. school sucks, teachers suck, your peers suck, and everything hurts...jr high/high school is a black hole of angst and anger. you have to deal with bullies and misunderstanding coming from all angles - parents, school, media....things are all distorted.

if you wait it out, you grow stronger; but sometimes it seems impossible. and then something like this just seems to make so much sense. i feel for this boy; at the same time, the police did what they had to do.

I wonder if his parents knew what he was going through. My parents never had a clue how depressed I was at that age and what I was dealing with.

same. parents are often estranged by their children at that time. and sometimes vice versa. it's impossible to read into their relationship based on this - there are always so many possible factors.

I wrote a short story about that just a few months ago...creepy.

Now, I don't know at all, and I'm just jumping to conclusions...but here are two possibilities:

The kid was 15, but in grade 8. That makes him two years too old to be in that grade (assumably...of course, his birthday could be january and he could have been put in kindergarten a year late). Therefore, I'll assume he's either socially/emotionally immature, or just struggled alot in school. Kids who are socially immature tend to do things without thinking of the consequances, or don't truly comprehend them. Though they feel strongly about something at the moment, they might not be able to see other options or realize that they might change how they feel in the future.

If a kid that already has emotional problems has problems in school or struggles alot with schoolwork, this could aggrevate the problems further, because of always feeling frustrated or being made fun of by other kids for being 'stupid'. He might have felt powerless and felt that doing something this drastic would gain him some respect among other kids or make them feel bad about making fun of him.

Just a few ideas of what might make someone that young do something like that.
