The year IS over. There is nothing really coming out in December, which is easily the most dead month for new releases usually. It's inevitable I'll find something from this year that's awesome at some point or another, but usually that happens after the new year rolls around. Top 17 because I can:

1. Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites
2. Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
3. Doves - Some Cities
4. Ben Folds - Songs for Silverman
5. Nada Surf - The Weight is a Gift
6. Bright Eyes - Digital Ash in a Digital Urn
7. New Idea Society - You Are Awake or Asleep
8. Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
9. Dredg - Catch Without Arms
10. Cave In - Perfect Pitch Black
11. Starflyer 59 - Talking Voice Vs. Singing Voice
12. Metric - Live It Out
13. Oceansize - Everyone Into Position
14. Our Lady Peace - Healthy In Paranoid Times
15. Life and Times - Suburban Hymns
16. Giant Drag - Hearts and Unicorns
17. OK Go - Oh No

I bought like 28 albums from this year, but those are the 17 that made an actual impact in my music listening habits. 7 through 16 are really, really close, too.

Bleh. This was an AMAZING year for new releases, but I didn't get a chance to buy most of the albums I was looking forward to yet. :crying: Anyway, the ones that I did get a chance to grab...

Our Lady Peace - Healthy In Paranoid Times (without a doubt my number one... anyone who's surprised needs to CM more )

    Beck - Guero

Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth

    Weezer - Make Believe

Greenwheel - Electric Blanket (yeah, not ACTUALLY released, but it counts!)
Then the albums that I'm sure would be on the list if I'd had a chance to buy them...

    Jason Mraz - Mr. A-Z
    OK Go - Oh No
    Dane Cook - Retaliation
    Jamiroquai - Dynamite
    Maroon 5 - Live
Green Day - Bullet In A Bible
The Like - Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?

And I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

It's late and I'm tired, so I can't be looking at my record collection to see what's been out this year. I really haven't bought that much really. However off the top of my head:

OLP- HIPT
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Matthew Good - In A Coma
Kaiser Chiefs - Employment

and Arcade Fire - Funeral gets an honourary mention because even though it came out in 2004, I've only listened to it recently and I <3 it!
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

I think some of his songs are pretty good...but then he does something like that "work-out plan" song from the first album and it ruins all the songs that were actually good and whose lyrics had meaning worth listening to.

Brutus is an honorable man
It's just coincidence that oil men will wage war in an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

But Brutus is an honorable man...
