maybe steve is playing the rythym parts of songs just to change it up from playing some of the old stuff, at least he plays the other parts, just so he's not bored with the same songs....and maybe joel is that good that they are just sharing the lead roles, not to take away from steve, rather to fully show and utilize joel's skills....there is nothing wrong with steve's guitar playing, its just that joel is just as good, so let him have a little fun on stage too

all I will say is there was some crap going on a few weeks ago.. I think it is cause they are all tired, exhuasitc and trying to get back to being on the road full time again..

It is not the same as it was a few years back.. I wouldn't worry about it.

as for Lead. some bands have more then one lead guitar palyer. Look at Judas Priest. Besides with this song, the accoustic is so different from the cd version and regular live version. You hardly hear Steve at all form this version.. where on cd and definitely regualr live he is very prominent.

also not to burst your bubble people but JAMIE played alot of lead parts too instead of Mike on the SM tour.. :nod:

Yes. Some bands have more than one lead guitar player.

But OLP doesn't.

OLP has one guitar player, and a stunt musician who's along for the ride, only passingly credited in the liners (he's clearly not an official member). Their guitar player should be writing and performing his own licks, not playing backup to a guest player. If that's all he's doing, he should be credited as a backup guitarist, and Joel should be credited as the guest lead on the album.

And I know what some people are thinking. What does it matter if someone else plays guitar?

Well, how would you feel if the band decided to let Raine sing backup vocals, and they invited someone else to come in, write the lyrics, and sing on the album. That just wouldn't be OLP.

This is the same.

I want to hear what OLP can do, not their hired talent.

That's like me comissioning Matt Good to write and record an album for me, and then putting my name on it.

Again, we don't know it for sure. But if it is the case, it's not just something to sluff off as a quirky trait of the band.

I should specify that playing "backup" doesn't mean playing rhythm guitar. It means playing an inferior role. Sometimes the rhythm is the "main" part.

In A/L/S, it definately isn't.

like I said it is one performance. We have no idea why Steve did only chords.. Maybe he was sick, maybe Joel handles it better. The only ones who know is the band.

also I don't remember Steve ever saying I am an In Your Face Guitarist.. Give the guy a break.. I think he did a great job stepping into Mike's shoes.. They aren't the same. SOme love Mike more. Some love Steve more. Some don't care either way as long as the music is good..

Besides you are basing all of this on one song.. Joel is an amazing musican as was Mike E and Jamie before him.. I honestly feel OLP have gotten better as a live band...

this is the only thing I remeber them saying..

the members of Our Lady Peace knew Steve was the perfect choice. "Steve is the guitar player that fit like a glove," says Raine. "He has a solid understanding of our music and shares our appreciation for the new directions the OLP sound is heading

I do not want to get into the whole Mike vs Steve thing with you Rob. I know how much of a Mike fan and supporter you are.. That is great..

I just happen to support OLP and their choice of Steve.. That is not to say I do not like, or appreicate Mike. I went to alot of shows with Mike( about 30) and got to talk to him alot over the years.. Stuff happens.

They wanted the "in your face" guitarist for Gravity. That was over 3 years ago, bands change. Their style is different now.

Actually Mike left OLP almost 4 years ago.. God has it been that long all ready..
