it was good

it just made me happy that the crowd went way more crazy ans sang louder for In Repair than they did for Somewhere Out There.

and boo for the whole "if you buy a cd for $15 you get to meet us" thing again.

It means if you buy HIPT at the concert, you get a meet & greet with the band. But, any real fan already owns the album and will therefore have to buy it AGAIN to get the meet & greet.

That's really freaking lame. Maybe I'll bring one of my 2 copies with me. I mean, I'm willing to pay another $15 to meet them, but that seems really sell-out-ish of them. And as Nikki said, kinda screws the real fans.

I'm good at pissing off fans of bands regarding my thoughts on live shows, so here goes nothing.

First, the opening acts sucked. OLP hits sometimes (Greenwheel), but usually misses (Sheila Divine) when picking opening bands.

Second, the Royal Oak Music Theatre is my favorite large venue to see a show. Sound was awesome, sight lines better, and it's just a sweet place to go that's not the ghetto of Detroit.

Third, the band's performance was good. Not spectacular. Just good. They SOUNDED amazing. I wanted to cry. The new stuff was great. Every new song they played sounded incredible. The changes to Clumsy and Superman aren't all that spectacular, at least to the point where Birdman and Naveed were changed in the past.

However, for all the great sound, the stage show lacked. First, I think the front light bar was broken. Can anyone else who has been to a recent show comment on whether the stage was dark and hard to see all night? There were ZERO lights pointing towards the front of the band, so it was tough to see. Raine was surprisingly docile. I'm so used to him crashing around the stage running into people and climbing things. And the setlist was a little short, and lacking in fan favorites from the past. I would have given my right arm for Car Crash, Middle of Yesterday, Not Enough, or Julia. Oh well.

All in all, it was the 2nd best OLP show I've seen, trailing the State Theatre 02 show in Detroit. They're still my favorite band, far and away. I'll pay to see them tomorrow if they announced another show. Just remember guys, we love the new stuff, but we also love the old stuff!

There must've been something wrong with the lights, Nate. The stage's been backlit at every show, lately... and usually pretty brightly (at least when you're in the front... it's freakin' blinding).

You really don't like what they've done to "Superman's Dead" that much?

Random 3am thoughs:

Good show.
Only good because it was no State Theater performance.

The setlist was good, but only good because it didn't include any extras for the passionate 2nd home crowd of Detroit.

I wasn't thrilled with the lighting primarily becuase there was one shinning directly in my face for half the show.

I liked Joels stuff in a soloist Joe Satriani kind of way. Wouldn't mind hearing more.

The Rock n' Roll kids ...err .. soldiers .. well they shat.
Other than the drummer maybe, none of them looked over 15.
The guitarist looked to be 10 year old kid who han't had a hair cut since he was 7.

Then again the majority of the crowd around me and in line around me seemed to be under 20. Didn't meet any CM'ers. Guess all the people my age had jobs to be at or jsut wern't dedicated nough to take the day off or call in sick.

It kind of annoys me when a 15 y/o girl and a 20 y/o old guy get up to the front row then do nothing but hump each other the entire show. Even during OLP they just sat there nodding their heads and humping each other.

Oh and you have no right to whine and bitch if you wear sandals to a concert and your feet are getting stepped on in the front row.

If I have time tomorrow maybe I'll post a reveiw in paragraph form.

They really didn't do that much to it. They just added a 3rd guitar line basically that's pretty much a solo over the top of everything. It sounded great, but it doesn't really change the song much. Maybe beefs it up a bit.

I agree with Kicker. GOOD show, not great. I nearly died after the State Theatre show. I was so worn out. This show was just solid, but not memorable in that way that I need shows to be sometimes. If I were them, I wouldn't be ashamed of their performance. I just wouldn't be like "Man, we left it all out there".

Can't wait for round two on this tour, maybe in the winter or spring, when they've played the new stuff enough to start messing with it, and they're busting out some old rarities to liven up the setlist. We'll see if we get a round two.

You know Lori it was kinda weird a the show.
I was down to the left of Steve away from most the action going on in the center. But Steve seemed to favor my side of the crowd while he was on guitar.
The keyboard was facing me directly but never looked up from that.

After the big SD finale he came direclty my way and was first to *shake* my hand (While I said "AWSOME SHOW!!" to him) then he slapped hands down the row for maybe 7-8 people at the most.

I think he was expecting you to be there or something. Maybe he recognized me from the Toronto show and was expecting you to be right next to me again.

I think you disapointed Steve Lori.

And for dissapointing Steve, well all I have to say for that is:
