Debut of HIPT on Billboard

Post by kc »

I believe Gravity debut at #9 on the billboard charts, off the success of SOT being played on the US radio stations. I have a hard time believing that HIPT will debut even in the top 50, after the single Where Are You. I was wondering where you guess the album will debut?

When I take into consideration that when I asked about the dvd and album at FYE they looked at me with a blank stare supposedly never having heard of OLP before, and the fact that I've yet to hear Where Are You once other than on the Late Late Show and the one I dl'd on the computer ... I'd say around 85.

Yeah, Somewhere Out There was pretty huge by the time Gravity debuted... meanwhile, Where Are You is... well... not.

Though, this is a highly anticipated album cos of the band's big break. I guess it all depends on if the core fanbase is bigger than we think it is or not. ;)

Is the Billboard based on US sales or North American sales? I'm sure that HIPT will be doing good in Canada. I'd say #2 in Canada, behind Kanye West in the first week.

I think its going to debut high as well, its a good album, but it all depends on how big the core fan base is, OLP does have LOTS of fans.

I am pretty sure Billboard is based on US sales. After all the Canadian press, signed copies of HIPT, small club and free shows- I think it would disappointing if they didn't debut at #1 in Canada. I am surprised that so many people believe it debut's in the top 10. It would be amazing if they did it two albums in a row. I think SM debut somewhere in the 90's.

If they had chosen any other week to release the album in the last 2 months they would have debuted #1 in Canada but the hype around the Kanye West album is huge. I don't know if they can take the top spot from him.... Gravity had opening sales of 25000, I wonder if they can top those numbers?

As for the states... .who knows? Where Are You isn't exactly storming up the charts. They should have a decent fanbase built up in the States but who knows if they'll pickup the album right away.

I'd have to guess somewhere between 20-30... but I was way off with Gravity and will probably be wrong again.

in the interview from the album premier on Y108 in hamilton last nite, they said that where are you is the bands biggest radio hit to date....i found it rather surprising, but i guess its not too shocking cause it does get a lot of airplay in Canada
Is there something good, something more?
Is there anything worth dying for?

Biggest in just Canada, or everywhere? Cos there's no way it's doing better down here than SOT did. That even crossed over to adult contemporary stations.

you know there isnt a real big push here in the NY area at least for this CD..

I have sasid this many times. They never have any thing up for OLP around in the cirty. Every person under the sun yes, but not OLP. I swear the powers that be do not like them here. What makes it bad is SONY is here in NYC.. Go figure. I also loved how these girls said OLP are not real big in LA. Are they kidding. There was a huge ad for them on the side of Whiskey for the cd. i haven't to see that in NY.

I say it probably will take awhile to hit the charts.. As long as it sells it wil be good. Postion isn't that big a deal. True some people are huge in the top ten, but can yo honestly name every cd that was in teh top 10 this year.. yet we can name the big cd's.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

I live in Sudbury, about 3 hours north of toronto, you'd be hard pressed to find a single person who hasnt heard of OLP. A large amount are fans.

No way is it gonna be below 50. I voted for 11-20, but I do think it will outsell Gravity in the early going as well as in the long run.

There's just more anticipation and more a fan base then before.

And it's not like Where Are You isn't getting any airplay in the U.S.

Between 17-22. If it breaks below #50, consider it a bomb here in the U.S., particularly since the success of the last record.
