My thoughts on the album, in black text, highlight to read (beware, pretty detailed review)

1. Angels Losing Sleep - I must've to the clip of this on OLP.com about a hundred times. One of my favorite songs on the album. Love Raine's singing and the sudden ending

2. Will The Future Blame Us - I like this one a lot. I can't for the life of me understand why they used Where Are You as the first single instead of this. I could imagine lots of people singing the words to this one. The chorus is huge.

3. Picture - This is one of the clunkers in my opinion, it never seems to hold my attention for very long

4. Where Are You - The worst song on the album in my opinion. It sounds patched together and I never liked it much.[/shadow]

5. Wipe That Smile Off Your Face - Awesome song. Not quite as good as some of the live versions. I sorely miss the 2 minute guitar solo. The ending totally makes up for it and made me smile from ear to ear. Its so good to hear Raine really let out a few good falsetto yowls once in a while

6. Love and Trust - This is a good song, I love the lyrics and Steve's chiming guitar part.

7. Boy - I can't form an accurate opinion of this song. Its sounds so like U2 that its almost eerie (and as I've already said I'm not to hot on U2)

8. Apology - This song is brilliant. Its a very pretty love song that makes the most of what is essentially Raine moaning for minutes on end. Guitar is very nice. Love this song.

9. The World On A String - One of those songs that makes you go "what the f*ck" the first time you hear it. I love the 50's-ish sound to it. I find myself singing this one all the time. It sounds like they all had fun with this one. Duncan's bass is more present on this one (as well as on the rest of the album) than it ever was on Gravity

10. Don't Stop - This ones ok, a tiny bit generic (although some of that might come from being placed right after Apoligy and World On A String). I love the break at 2:14 . If you've read the Access article w/Raine the verse here makes a lot of sense.

11. Circles -At first I was very meh on this one. Its grown to become one of my faves. Duncan must have had fun on this one. He gets a nice little bass solo that intertwines nicely with Steves guitar. I love how the echo of the word Circles is sung. Also, nice atmospheric keyboars on this one.

12. - Al Genina (Leave A Light On) - Everything about this track completely floored me. The lyrics are heartbreaking and the music (guitar and keys) is ethereal and brilliant. One of Raine's best vocal performances. This is so going to end up being one of my favorite OLP songs.

Pro's

- Much less bland than Gravity
- It seems that Raine isn't utterly afraid of using his higher register anymore. Its nowhere near what it used to be but its so nice to hear him slip into his falsetto once in while.
- When Raine sings deep its not nearly as abrasive as it was on Gravity
- I've noticed the keys alot on this album. It gives a great sense of atmosphere to the album that was majorly lacking on Gravity.
- Steve doesn't seem like such an ill fit on record anymore (he's freaking amazing live, I've never contested that. *remembers seeing Birdman live*

Cons

- There are some absolute clunkers (namely Where Are You, Picture, and Boy. I'm gonna get flack for that one)

In conclusion, its much better than I'd even hoped for. Not quite great but it blows Gravity out of the water imo.

Boy will grow on you with a few listens. Its got some great guitar rythyms and has an epic feel to it.......I found the chorus off putting at the start and since the song is slower I kind of neglected to listen to it. I find it much more intricate than the first few tracks on the album. There's always something great to find in Boy you didn't hear before.

ugh....sounds like Michael Jackson.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I definitely feel that "Al Genina (Leave a Light on)" may be the most beautiful, haunting OLP song to date.

I don't think Picture will ever be a single. Nickelback released "Photograph"
first and if OLP releases Picture it will sound like a knock off (even though Picture is probably a lot older)

Single potentials: Love and Trust, Will The Future Blame Us, Boy, Angels

"State of Love and Trust" is actually a Pearl Jam song found on the Singles soundtrack.

One of their best songs too.

It makes me so happy to see people having different faves all around. Yay for regaining faith in OLP!

State of Love and Trust is one of PJ's best, hell, the whole singles soundtrack is amazing.
