Access Article on OLP.

Post by naveed99 »

I was surprised when I read this article on olp.cc, from access magazine.

heres the link : http://www.accessmag.com/77/77-ourladypeace.php

OLP went through some really rough times with this album! It also says some interesting stuff about song meanings, including the fact that wipe that smile off your face is about george bush, and where are you is about America.

Im glad their still together after that. :)

yeah, i saw that article on livejournal. i'm surprised.

so in essence, it was the lack of a deadline that pressured them to the point of near breakage? interesting

 I'm glad I wasn't alone in laughing at that.

Raine wrote:I wanted to just say what I wanted to say, and if Clear Channel didn't want to play a f**kin' song because it had lyrics about Bush, then too bad.

Anyone else find it hypocritical that he says something like that in an article, yet when he plays WTSOYF here, he won't tell the audience what it's really about?

True (but they definately have it in them to make GREAT albums regardless because it's OLP). I'm thinking this will be OLP's last album because their contract ends with Sony after this album. So I'm thinking "Why would OLP sign another contract for another, let's say, 5 albums?". To me that doesn't make any sense as to why they would.

just my 2 cents... :O

I know the have a TV show cvalled access, where it show entertainment news, like music, tv, etc... Like Entertainment Tonight.

I hope I like this album. Usually when albums get political to me, it seems like the band goes downhill. Like Greendays album, I think thier older music was better, but when their new album came out, it was so political. Which pissed me off, and the songs weren't that good. Don't get me wrong, some songs were good, but their were a lot the wasn't. (thats my opinion, don't comment on that about Green Day). I just hope this new OLP album its not so political like Greendays.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that bands should only stick to music and not write about political stuff no matter if its republican and/or democratic.

How do you know that? I thought contracts were based on years, or something.

Yeah, I think that's very hypocritical of him. But I do remember him saying at one live show it was about politions. At Edgefest, he said it was about a person smiling after knowing they got away with lieing to your face...he should have just said what it's really about. I mean, ugh...

Bush = moron...Just say it Raine.

At Edgefest in Toronto in 2003, he blatantly said it was about Bush. But I think he's tried to be a little more subtle lately, which could be a good thing publicly though. There are a lot of people that would get very offended by an Anti-Bush statement. They are trying to sell records in the long run...

He said the same thing at the club show in Toronto, and has said it on several recordings. Good article.

Yeah, a very good article. And I agree, he can't be too blatant about bashing Bush all the time, or OLP might find themselves with a few less offers for American shows. I love the Bush bashing though - more power to them! :D

I don't necessarily think its hypocritical... the very next sentence in the article says he had to remind himself that a band is democratic, so its not JUST up to him to decide what the band should promote

Well, to me it's the fact that in Toronto he was very clear about it being anti-Bush and how proud he was to be a Canadian when Canada decided not to enter the war. Then in Buffalo he didn't mention Bush at all. It'll be interesting to see whether he does mention him at any of the other shows.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

Ya, I think "where are you" is about bush too. I hope they have it in them to keep making albums, i guess it REALLY depends on how this one does. If it does bad and the singles do bad, and they arent getting the live turnout they wanted, I dont think they'll have the motivation to go back and make more.

It seems like a last album to me too. Too bad, because I *think* I would have been happier ending after Gravity :(
