Hiroshima
Will you comment for me Corey? Pwetty pwease!
lol Seriously, I would like to hear what you have to say.

I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

My Dad has a photo at home of one of those atomic bombs going off signed by all the senior people that worked on it. My Grandad was high up in the civil service here in some kind of department to do with the war that I can't remember the name of so the photo was presented to him afterwards. My Granny wouldn't let him put it up on the walls though (good for her!) so I think it's lived in boxes forever. It's really faded, but you can still see the outline and all the signatures and stuff - I've only seen it once and find it really creepy.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.
And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

Nope I wasn't being serious. George Bush does some pretty dumb stuff... the war in Iraq is one good example. Removing African debt and then halving the aid funding is another as is his complete ignorance where the environment is concerned, but I know he isn't actually going to blow up the earth. I was just speculating jokily.
As for signed pictures and what not. I say "hoy yay!" to your nan, who refused to put it on the wall. I watched this program on BBC about it and all the men who dropped the second bomb were signing it and kissing it and stuff. That was pretty sick.

You do realize that the debt relief given to Afican countries was an act completed by all of the G7 (not just the USA) that was designed to ensure that these poor nations would have to abide by the stipulations that foreign private enterprises would set up shop in these countries. This ultimately ensures that companies from the richest nations will be able to exploit the land, and population of these poor nations even more than the governments were able to do when the African nations were in their debt.
Before you go tearing apart Bush, look at your own leader and what he's doing. Bush isn't the only one doing wrong.

I agree completely with you. Right now i'm sure all involved are very sorry, but how can you know before you do something? It was a lesson to the world.xjsb125 wrote:On the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there will never be an acceptable justification for it. Hindsight is 20/20. Tony Blair is Bush's bitch!

I do know. I think that debt relef is a wonderful idea, i just don't see how it was then necessary to half aid funding. Where does that get people?

To be honest I'm prefectly willing to tear apart Mr Blair too. As closeyoureyes nicely put it he "is Bush's bitch!". Joking aside though, I'm not really a supporter of the Labour party. Just cause I live in a country, doesn't mean I like the leader. I guess there are some good things he has done, but thats mainly because no leader (yes even Bush) can be all bad. For exaple, and I know I'm probably going to get alot of stick for this, Hitler did some wonderful things before he turned out to be sick and slightly insane.
Also, for anyone here who knows much about the British Government (beyond Blair), cause I don't know if this was reported over in the great continent of America, who feels rather bad for Mr Cook? He was only 59.

Aw, but then we'd all be happy, worry free and we'd have to get along. Where's the fun in that?

have any of you seen Trinity and Beyond. Its an excellent movie with declassified military footage of nuclear test sites. It also includes footage of Hiroshima. Its a very interesting film, and i think after watching it you will realize just how many nuclear bombs have been set off. Which of course ruins your aregument of them wondering what the bomb could do. They knew way more then you think, from all the test explosions. They even were able to calculate the best altitude to set it off to create a much more dramatic explosion from creating these neat waves which flip shit over and such.
Anyhow if anyone wants it ill share it on the hub today

There were subtle differences between each of the bombs. Little boy was Uranium based. Fat Man was plutonium based IIRC. Fat Man had a much larger yield than Little Boy but due to nagasaki's relatively hilly terrain the damage was a lot more muted than in the flats of Hiroshima.
While the death was an unfortunate part of this... the science behind it all is really quite fascinating.
PS
If you ever want technology to take a great leap forward... start a world war. The greatest technological advances have come due to large scale conflict. Ironic isn't it. We have to beat the crap out of each other to develop faster.

Ooh I know. Its annoying isn't it. Really its because people are happy to get along quietly, until a war starts and then they all try and find new and exciting and cost effective ways to kill eachother. Mind you it can't be said that every advance that comes out of a war is military based. If you look at the American economic boom in the 1920s, that covers a large range of products, from nylon tights to the motorcar and that was kick started by WW1.
I'm actually marvelling in the irony of the situation. Heh, lets make bets on how long it takes us to develop ourselves to extinction.

That's part of the DVD set I mentioned having on the other page. Trinity and Beyond is the first DVD, the second chronicles the upper atmosphere/space detonations, and the third explores alternate uses and some other stuff I can't remember right now. Very interesting and scary to watch.

I like the house they build to blow up. That scared the shit out of me. Especially as they had that creepy classical music. But yah scared the shit out of me. I also could not believe how many test they did. Especially deap sea and atmostpheric. And we wonder why we have environmental issues.

Ahh. I don't think that would be a good idea, cause then I'd have to get on my "Global warming is natural only to a certain extent, we ARE partially responsible for it" donkey (I'm allergic to horses) and we already seem to disagree on things.
You know what... even though some of the stuff you have said seemed so wrong and ignorant and grrr, I accept that it's just your opinion, and opinions are what make people interesting, and not everyone can share my views. So on that note have a hypothetical hug *hugs*

There will be no hypothetical hugs in the politics section. Thank you.
Global Warming is natural in the sense that everything affects everything and always has. So if this is the case then we have to say that it is a completely natural event. At least that's the philosophical way of looking at it.

Global warming has alway been the precursor to an ice age (something of which we are long overdue for)
In a nutshell... world warms up -> ice caps melt -> warm ocean currents stop -> world freezes over (and while Day After Tomorrow is a rather large exaggeration of this fact, its scientific base is very secure) The freeze will take about 100 odd years and then you can look forward to 10 to 100 thousand years of icey goodness.
PS
A lot of what I say may seem ignorant. But its just an alternate way of looking at things. I'm a practical man. I don't believe that utopia can or ever will exist. And as such my opinion on things reflects this view. Situation A happens, we deal with it however our current leaders deem that we do. If you don't like it you can jump up and down with thousands of others screaming blue murder but in the end, you probably wont change their position any. I play with what hand I'm given and if you don't like the rules of the game. Don't play
PPS
I thank you for respecting my opinion as an opinion and I return your theoretical hug with a cyber flower in the interests of more lively discussion without resorting to name calling
