Are you tuning by ear or with a chromatic tuner?

Are all of the strings coming out of tune every time?

Also, I presume you know the notes you should be tuning to (perhaps one string is tuned incorrectly?)

E
B
G
D
A
E

or, if you're tuning to play OLP, you'll want to be a half step down:

Eb
Bb
F# (Gb)
C# (Db)
G# (Ab)
Eb

i.....quit guitar

i feel so stupid trying to learn it. i'm one of those people who just can't learn a new instrument on their own, it's so tough. i guess i'll always be playing keys and bowed strings.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

i really do. i'll try to teach myself something, but then i get doubtful that i'm doing one little thing wrong and i can't think of anything else but the fact that i might not be doing it the right way. my brain runs in straight lines when i'm learning things like this, i need to be ordered around. it's frustrating.

I kinda know what you mean. I know nothing about guitar, and I often think I might be doing the strumming completely wrong or something.

Your main problem is that you are doubting your own ability to learn and when you do that, it hinders your progress. Every person who takes the time to learn how to play an instrument are going to doubt their ability to learn but, thats when you need to work past it. If you are learning how to play a song and are having trouble, take a break. Go and do something else for a while, then try it again. But the key to overall success is taking a break. :)

yeah, i've only been taking a break for the past two months now. oops. it's kind of like...writer's block but for musicians. there's a term for it, i forgot what it was. when you take a break from writing because of severe writer's block, there's no helping you after that.
