Software isn't a problem at all, it has just as much, actually MORE than any PC due to the application known as Virtual PC. This application lets you use Windows (I have windows 2000) within your mac, it's like running another windows computer from your mac and allowing you to access and use absolutely any windows program. I also rarely use Virtual PC because I've been able to find almost everything I've needed for mac. The only thing I've ever needed VPC for was to use TmpgEnc to convert .WMV files to .mpg etc... because Macs don't support conversions of Windows Media. You can still watch/listen to those files though.

Actually the only thing that Macs lack is the amount of Video Games released for them as opposed to PC. For most people this isn't a problem though because Console gaming is by now basically a home computer anyway.

Also, Mac's OSX operating system still has not had a virus created to affect it.

That's a big matter of opinion. I enjoy actually being able to troubleshoot my computer when it's doing bad things.

That's also a matter of opinion, I use both Mac and PC and Mac is actually easier to troubleshoot and to repair or recover important data, backup and restore than a PC is. Not that a PC is difficult, there's just a lot more than can go wrong. That and data recovery due to corrupted hardware isn't as efficient as it is while using a Mac.

I dunno, every time my data's been corrupted, I've been able to recover most of it... in fact, all of it up til this time.

I wish the harddrive gods didn't hate me.

If you used a mac you wouldn't get corrupted data...so there would be no need to recover stuff.

The only reason why Macs are starting to become slightly useful is because they are becoming more PC-like. Virtual PC (a Microsoft product no-less), USB, IDE, VGA Monitors, etc.

Virtual PC is usually not needed anyway, as for USB, IDE, VGA etc... none of those are specific to PC...

Not anymore. And how about this: Mac is now turning to Intel for their CPUs. If that isn't proof... nothing is.

a computer which takes more care to write to the drive without fragments generally extends the life of the hard drive!

what exactly is this proving, besides mac has realized that IBM's power pc chips have already reached their maximum potential, and mac simply wants to keep an competative edge on the market. This is the second hardware change for macintosh, but i know it wont be the last. Its no different then running windows on an amd based machine or an intel machine.

Actually, me and Monkey think the problem is that my room reaches ridiculously high temperatures (hottest room in the house) and it fries the harddrives.

There's no stopping that.

As it is, the side of my case is usually off and the fans are a-plenty. It just gets really ridiculously hot in here.

Well, upstairs would naturally be hotter...especially when you have blazing hot weather outside.
