The more I think about it I kind of think Cass and whoever else said that Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him are right. Snape had made the unbreakable vow that he would finish the job if Draco couldn't. So if he hadn't killed Dumbledore, then he would have died, Dumbledore would have died, and the whole Malfoy family would have died. Dumbledore was ready to make that sacrifice. That is why he chose to immobilize Harry and not defend himself instead. He could have easily beaten them all, weakened as he was. Dumbledore is too clever, he must have known what was happening. He had to die, so the others would live and Harry would be able to go on.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay

My bad that is supposed to be Dumbledore though. I was thinking something else while I was writing that.

I didn't even think about that. That's a good point. Dumbledore may have just immobolized Harry to stop him from doing something stupid and killing them both. But that seems unlikely, since he has trust in Harry. Otherwise he wouldn't have asked Harry along to find the horcrux. It really is quite disappointing that Dumbledore died to get a horcrux that, in the end, wasn't even there.

That's a good point Cass. But if Dumbledore knew he was going to die, and he knows Harry is going to be the one to kill Voldemort, then he had to show Harry the kind of magic he was going to be dealing with and what obstacles he had to encounter to find these horcruxes. Dumbledore trusts Harry, but at the moment, Harry is still a mediocre wizard.

interview with jkr and the mods from the-leaky-cauldron.org and mugglenet part 2

ES: Was Dumbledore planning to die?

JKR: [Pause.] Do you think that's going to be the big theory?

MA & ES: Yes. It’ll be a big theory.

JKR: [Pause.] Well, I don't want to shoot that one down. [A little laughter.] I have to give people hope.

MA: It goes back to the question of whether Snape is a double-double-double-triple-

JKR: [Laughs] Double-double-quadruple-to-the-power-of - yeah.

MA: …whether this had been planned, and since Dumbledore had this knowledge of Draco the whole year, had they had a discussion that said, "Should this happen, you have to act as if it is entirely your intention to just walk forward and kill me, because if you don't, Draco will die, the Unbreakable Vow, you'll die," and so on —

JKR: No, I see that, and yeah, I follow your line there. I can't — I mean, obviously, there are lines of speculation I don't want to shut down. Generally speaking, I shut down those lines of speculation that are plain unprofitable. Even with the shippers. God bless them, but they had a lot of fun with it. It's when people get really off the wall — it's when people devote hours of their time to proving that Snape is a vampire that I feel it's time to step in, because there's really nothing in the canon that supports that.

rest here. it's pretty interesting, and pretty funny

also, would it be possible for a mod to put a spoiler warning in the thread title so we don't have to keep talking in black text? mystery aside, it's getting kinda tedious.

i finished it!!! :D :D
it was incredible, i've now decided that my favourites are the third and the sixth book. and i think it's wonderful how i was able to achieve that kind of frozen state, reading every word over and over really slowly at the climax, despite having had the ending spoilered to me before. i didn't know it was snape who did the killing though, that part came as a surprise.

and it also occured to me the idea of harry being a horcrux. that would be a spectacular ending to the series in my opinion.

also, two things that piqued my curiosity:

1. kreacher and dobby are still able to disapparate and apparate in school grounds, outside of the great hall! did i miss something? (forgive me if this was already explained in a previous book, i haven't read them in a while and it was hard to catch up when i first started reading the half blood prince)

2. remember zacharias smith? the kid in hufflepuff? also, remember that other lady that voldemort got the hufflepuff antique from? her last name was smith. i don't know if anybody else noticed that, but i am almost sure that zacharias smith is going to be involved if harry has to eventually find the hufflepuff antique horcrux.

Holy crap Jenn, I missed that Smith connection! You may be on to something. I think the houseelves can dissaparate inside the castle, because they aren't evil and they need to be able to go around the castle to perform their duties, unnoticed.

I don't think Dumbledore planned to die anymore, because of the latest J.K. interview. She pretty much all but denies it. I'm not sure Snape is completely evil, but I don't think Dumbledore planned his death.
I just wanna get out,
Stuck inside of this.

Snape didn't want to do it, he had that twitch when he was making the vow. But if he didn't take the vow they were all dead. If he didn't kill Dumbledore they were all dead. If he was really evil, he would have killed flitwick, and the kids when he ran out.

It all comes down to Snape, not Dumbledore. There's no way Voldemort would trust Snape if he refused to kill Dumbledore in the long run. Besides, we all knew he was going to die eventually. This was much more upsetting to me than when Sirius died
