One of my friends suggested that perhaps Snape didn't actually know what Draco's mission was when he made the Unbreakable Vow.

About Regulus Black ... didn't he die really shortly after wanting to back out of being a death eater? I'm not sure he had the time to find (and destroy?) the Horcrux.

I don't think he destroyed it. I stand by my belief that it's the locket mentioned in OotP's description of Grimmauld Place.

As for the whole Dumbledore wanting to die thing, to me that doesn't seem very likely, as it has often been illustrated how important the school is to him and how important he is to the school. Nothing big has ever happened with Dumbledore still there, save for the very cleverly disguised death-eater becoming a teacher.

<font color="black">i also don't think dumbledore wanted to die. when he asks snape "please, severus...", i don't think he's begging for his life, nor is he asking snape to kill him. i dunno, maybe he knew that snape's loyalty was questionable, and when i read that part, it seemed a lot to me like he was asking snape to help him.

christa lynn, the regulus being murdered after he wanted to back out of being a death eater was the story as sirius knew it, after being told about it. it doesn't necessarily mean it's true. sirius did hava a rather biased view of him family.

Does anyone think there might be signifigance in the fact that the ring has a lightning shaped crack, and Harry Has a lightning shaped scar?
Come to think of it, if Harry was a horcrux, that would be a suitably dramatic ending to the series. He'd have to kill himself to destroy Voldemort once and for all. And making him a horcrux could have been an accident. Something I find sort of strange is that dumbledore said that Voldemort was probably going to use Harry to make the last horcrux, and we all know how that went, but it's still being assumed that there are six in total.

ES: I know Dumbledore likes to see the good in people but he seems trusting almost to the point of recklessness sometimes.

ES: be so blind with regard to certain things?

JKR: Well, there is information on that to come, in seven. But I would say that I think it has been demonstrated, particularly in books five and six that immense brainpower does not protect you from emotional mistakes and I think Dumbledore really exemplifies that. In fact, I would tend to think that being very, very intelligent might create some problems and it has done for Dumbledore, because his wisdom has isolated him, and I think you can see that in the books, because where is his equal, where is his confidante, where is his partner? He has none of those things. He’s always the one who gives, he’s always the one who has the insight and has the knowledge. So I think that, while I ask the reader to accept that McGonagall is a very worthy second in command, she is not an equal. You have a slightly circuitous answer, but I can't get much closer than that.

ES: No, that was a good answer.

MA: It's interesting about Dumbledore being lonely.

JKR: I see him as isolated, and a few people have said to me rightly I think, that he is detached. My sister said to me in a moment of frustration, it was when Hagrid was shut up in his house after Rita Skeeter had published that he was a half-breed, and my sister said to me, “Why didn't Dumbledore go down earlier, why didn't Dumbledore go down earlier?” I said he really had to let Hagrid stew for a while and see if he was going to come out of this on his own because if he had come out on his own he really would have been better. "Well he's too detached, he's too cold, it's like you,” she said!" [Laughter] By which she meant that where she would immediately rush in and I would maybe stand back a little bit and say, “Let's wait and see if he can work this out.” I wouldn't leave him a week. I'd leave him maybe an afternoon. But she would chase him into the hut.</font>

I just finished reading it, i loooooved it. anyway, does anyone else think we should have a separate spoilers thread as to stop using black text?

anyway, this is what i think, this has probably been mentioned 10,000 times but i really hate black text, so i didn't read the thread, MY BAD.:

i think at the end dumbledore was actually pleading for snape to kill him to show his ultimate devotion to voldemort, not pleading with him to stay alive. snape had to kill dumbledore as to spare draco. that would lead for the ultimate twist in book 7 because harry isn't a good enough wizard to do this all on his own. aaaahhh too many theories in my head, too little sleep. that's all for now.

I reply in black text That's a good thought. I disagree with it though. I think Dumbledore believed Snape to be on his side and actually felt he would help him. Snape is a powerful wizard and with the element of surprise could probably have defeated the death eaters there. Dumbledore was so trusting of Snape, he was begging for his life. But on the other hand, you could be right. Harry needed a way to be shoved into motion. Dumbledore must have known it was all going to happen soon. That is why he told Harry all he knew about Voldemort. Harry needed a way to be put on his own. He can't rely on others anymore. Now he is also determined, to get his revenge. Snape and Voldemort have destroyed any parental figures in his life now.

Wow, I just finished last night. I was balling, of course. I think taking Harry away from Hogwarts is a very good/dramatic effect to end the book. I just don't see how she can avoid having a HUGE book to cover him finding all the horcuxes, etc. I also think that him and Ginny will get back together. Because eventually he'll realize that love is the most powerful magic, and Harry has to have a love. Ginny will play a big part.

I also think that Dumbledore was ordering Snape to kill him. Perhaps it was not exactly how they planned it to go, but I don't think Snape would have. I guess I'd just like to believe that he's the key to all this. I also wonder if the Order even knew? There is more about Snape that we are going to find out I think. They'll go more into his history of his childhood/time as a Death Eater. Although I hate him for killing Dumbledore, I think that Snape is going to be the one to guide Harry into finding the last horcruxes, or at least help him? It seems unlikely to me that Harry has enough magical knowledge to actually find them.

I also like the idea of Harry being the last horcrux. Although that definitely means he has to die. Which is horrible. It astounds me how this series has changed. But I really like it, because it really reflects life. I mean, we'd all like to stay as innocent as we were, wouldn't we? But it just doesn't seem to be that way.

I feel drained after reading that, I really do.
