yeah, it was a superstore. you'd think it wouldn't be that hard to just read the big words on the stupid boxes saying "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL JULY 16!"

the fact that raincoast won a court injunction barring the buyers from disclosing the plot, i'm thinking, means that anyone who does will be sued. with j.k. rowling's wrath hanging over your head, no less. richest woman on earth. also, if the buyers return the books, they get a gift pack and a metal plate with jo rowling's signature on it. heck i don't care how much i love hp, if i would get a metal plate with her signature for returning a book that i'll get to read in four days anyway, i'd be at the store returning it right now.

and if you didn't buy the book and just looked at it, rob, chances are you probably won't remember anything worth spoilering.

anyway...

"There was already a small queue for the tap in the corner of the field. Harry, Ron and Hermione joined it, right behind a pair of men who were having a heated argument. One of them was a very old wizard who was wearing a long flowery nightgown. The other was clearly a Ministry wizard; he was holding out a pair of pinstriped trousers and almost crying with exasperation.

'Just put them on, Archie, there's a good chap, you can't walk around like that, the Muggle on the gate's already getting suspicious-'

'I bought this in a Muggle shop,' said the old wizard stubbornly. 'Muggles wear them.'

'Muggle women wear them, Archie, not the men, they wear these,' said the Ministry wizard, and he brandished the pinstriped trousers.

'I'm not putting them on,' said old Archie in indignation. 'I like a healthy breeze round my privates, thanks.'

Hermione was overcome with such a strong fit of the giggles at this point that she had to duck out of the queue, and only returned when Archie has collected his water and moved away again."

You keep posting things I just barely read!

Is she really the richest woman in the world? Even richer than Oprah? If so, that almost makes me want to not buy the book. I hate making rich people richer. But then...she is really good. I can't say she deserves that much money...but she still deserves alot.

oh, no, wait. she's the richest woman in britain. richer than the queen anyway, i know that. i guess i just assumed that meant she's the richest woman in the world. but apparently not.

i agree though, every penny she's earned, she's done it by her own talents, so she deserves it. not like some other celebrities out there...

That happened with the last book too. It was somewhere in the UK from what I remember. It was on CNN. Some book store sold a bunch of copies two days before the release. Anyways the day of, they kids who had finished the book before it was supposed to be out had like a press conference type deal. It was really funny. All these reporters asking hardcore questions, "Did the book live up to your expectations? Who is the character that dies? Would you recommend the book to your friends?" the kids were just like "uhh...it was really good. I liked it."

So I just found out on BK there is someone who is trying to get a group together to be the chudly cannons. Thats amazing. And the Navigators are going to play. Though, what affiliation they have to Harry Potter is beyond me.

My friend has also talked me into dressing up as Mad-Eye Moody for the release party. This is going to be one interesting night...

oooh, mad-eye? that'd be interesting. it'd be kinda hard to put together though, wouldn't it? with the peg-leg and the magical eye? i'm interested now to see how you'll do it.

i think i might go as hermione from the PoA movie. it's an easy costume, although my hair isn't light brown like emma's. still, it is curly. all i really need is the pink shirt and a rainbow belt.

I'm not dressing up because I'll be at stupid work.

If I did dress up though...I think it would be fun to go as Tonks.

"'Crystal-gazing is a particularly refined art,' she said dreamily. 'I do not expect any of you to See when first you peer into the Orb's infinite depths. We shall start by practising relaxing the conscious mind and external eyes' - Ron began to snigger uncontrollably, and had to stuff his fist in his mouth to stifle the noise - 'so as to clear the Inner Eye and the superconscious. Perhaps, if we are lucky, some of you will See before the end of the class.'

And so they began. Harry, at least, felt extremely foolish, staring blankly at the crystal ball, trying to keep his mind empty when thoughts such as 'this is stupid' kept drifting across it. It didn't help that Ron kept breaking into silent giggles and Hermione kept tutting.

'Seen anything yet?' Haarry asked them, after a quarter of an hour's quiet crystal-gazing.

'Yeah, there's a burn on this table,' said Ron pointing. 'Someone's spilled their candle.'

'This is such a waste of time,' Hermione hissed. 'I could be practising something useful. I could be catching up on Cheering Charms -'

Professor Trelawney rustled past.

'Would anyone like me to help them interpret the shadowy portents within their Orb?' she murmured over the clinking of her bangles.

'I don't need help,' Ron whispered. 'It's obvious what this means. There's going to be loads of fog tonight.'

Both Harry and Hermione burst out laughing."

they should seriously only send the books to bookstores before the release date. every one else should get it on or right before the date. besides the 14 people in BC, a boy in NY accidently bought the new book at a drugstore, and two indiana men bought the books from a downtown store. the NY boy returned it after reading two pages, but the stupid indiana guys are actually going around giving reviews of the book. makes me mad...

But if they waited until the very day, I can't even imagine the hold up and things that may happen. Then they'd have stores full of very, very angry people. I'd rather have a few idiots reading it too soon than thousands of pissed off fans.

well, no, i mean, if they only send it to bookstores before the release date, then the people who really want to get the book can get it there. bookstores generally tend to respect release dates and whatnot. everyone else gets it later. the people who would rather get the books at departmental stores rather than book stores probably wouldn't mind waiting for the book anyway.

The chances of the bookstores being busy the following morning are high, right?

My friend who used to work in a bookstore told me that they get all new releases at least 10 days in advanced. Apparently Coles has had HBP for 2 weeks now.

Mmm...Starbucks is turning into the Leaky Cauldron. Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice for all!
