Rusty, Reza, don't believe what you hear. High school is nothing and the rest of your life will make you realize how stupid and pathetic high school is, and you'll be thankful you've left it. There is absolutely no reason to be afraid, you just need some goals and ambition. Oh and don't get a girl preggers before you're ready okay? that really fucks things up.

wow, such a good post for 6:10am. It's going to be an awesome day!

yeah, you know what, i think you're completely wrong. i loved high school. i'm pretty damn sure when i'm older i'll look back and say it WAS the best time of my life.
and i have goals for the future. i am going to make something of myself.
i just think you had a bad experience and feel it's that way for everybody.

What saddens me is when people say high school is the greatest time of your life. You know who says that? People who don't plan on doing anything with their lives. I guarentee you the people who will tell you that will be the ones who have no plans in life, who are usually the ones who partied through high school and are the ones who will inevitibly end up pregnant within 3 years from a guy who also has no future ambitions in life and thought high school was the greatest time he'll ever have.

Judas Jim! I had a great time in high school. And I plan on doing something with my life. I also have been in school for three years and I'm not pregnant nor have I ever been. I also have never parties or done drugs, and have been on scholarship most of the time I was in college. So I think you're completely wrong. You can't predict what kind of person will succeed, and which of them hated or loved high school. High school was so fun! I participated on all the sports teams, I had lots of friends (most of the time), and I excelled in school. What more can you ask for?

I've had this discussion with my friends just before graduating. We were all wondering why so many people were signing yearbooks and whatever saying that this is the best time of your life. What does that say though? That it's all downhill from here? I will be the first to admit that high school is lots of fun, etc, but I think too many people consider the best time of their lives because they have nothing to look forward to. At least that's how me and my friends felt about the people who we graduated with.

I mean I look at what people are doing now and very few are actually doing something with their lives. Some of become pregnant in the last two years, some have already dropped out of school, etc. It's these type of people where high school probably will be the best time of their lives. Personally, as much fun as I had in high school, the idea of getting out in the real world and making things happen in my own life seems a lot more fun than going to class and reading some text books.

I just don't like it when people think it's all downhill. That's how some of you made it sound. I think some of you couldn't be further from the truth. Life is what you make of it. If you want high school to be the best time of your life then odds are it will be, but if you don't want your greatest times to be behind you, then you have to go out and make it happen yourself. That was all I meant from my post. Sorry if it offended people.

Why is being pregnant such a bad thing? At our age there are lots of people who probably wanted it.

Being pregnant is bad in the case of my cousin who is 18, who can no longer work because she's pregnant (she was a ballet teacher), who lives in a crappy apartment with her mother, my aunt, who just recently divorced from my uncle and basically has nothing.

Being pregnant is bad when it's a total mistake like in this situation when there's no real support. It also doesn't help that my cousin has the maturity level of a 6 year old brat. I'm serious when I say she throws temper tantrums.

...anyway.

I'm just about to finish high school, and it took me a good long while to accept that i'd have to move on. i love school. i love being able to be bitter about certain classes but still love the whole experience. i love being able to try anything, learn anything that i want without it nesicarily having any impact on the rest of your life. i'm deathly afraid of getting into a job that i hate that i'll be stuck in for the rest of my life. when you're in school, you still have dreams for the future but are young enough to enjoy life. most of all, i love walking into a building everyday and seeing people that i went to kindergarten with and teachers that truly care about me. i love thinking that every test, every essay matters, when in the long run, not alot in life really does.

by the way, i'm typing this at a computer at school. school's been over for a week, and i'm still here because i love editing a video of a play that i was in. it's probably the last time i'll ever get to be in a play, because those experiences are offered to you mostly just in school. goodbye seaton, it's been a ride.

i hate high school: the bullying, the maliciousness, the insincere foppish teachers, the sincere teachers who are trying to 'save you', the shallowness, the petty gossip, being left out, alienated, told you're stupid and will never amount to anything, dealing with all the put-downs and let-downs. coping with your own turmoil, and then trying to cope with everyone else's. being called a freak, having your sexuality questioned, being beat up because other people question your sexuality. the intimidation, the repression, the severe curtailing of individual expression....

and i have been so involved throughout high school. played team sports, made honors, ran committees...and i hated it. not the involvement itself, but the idea that no matter how much you do it's not enough. hte competitiveness. the way teachers sic students against each other so academics become a win or lose proposition. the way sports become the be-all and end-all.

the best part of high school was my grade 11 american history class. that teacher changed my life.

but high school is a black hole that sucked the life and hope out of me. i'm glad it's over...and i have more of the same to look forward to in the so-called 'real world'. because people don't change...only the stakes do.

Nah, people do change. Most adults are a lot less judgemental than high school kids. Some idiots hang on to that attitude, but for the most part you don't have to deal with it anymore.

It's lovely.

personally, i don't really find high school any different than junior high or anything... just more work.

i'm going into gr. 11 and luckily i've never been bullied or anything. there are some jerks who'll toss out some jackass remark, but i just ignore them. it works... i just don't care about that. i don't care about the popularity or the sports or the 'school spirit' which is just a total joke. i don't care and it's perfectly fine. i just go in, do my work, learn what i have to learn and that's that. i have my small group of friends and most of my other friends don't even go to my school. not caring makes high school perfectly tolerable because all the pressure for all the outside crap is off.

i know it doens't work for everyone but it works fine for me. and seriously.. if high school is supposed to be the best time of your like then.. wow. that sucks.

i can't wait to get out of here and go to university.

During grade 8 and 9 I had approximatly 0 friends, which is the reason a) I became addicted to this here CM, and b) I got out of this place a year early. However, what happened when I skipped ahead a grade is that I suddenly got a group of really really close friends, so I've had an awesome past two years. I hope I keep these friends once we are done school though.

Basically, the mid-teen years really suck for the reasons listed above by other people, all the bullying and shit, but hopefully by the time you get to be about 15/16, people have grown up a little bit and get over themselves. In your last couple years of high school, most people have really amical relations with their teachers, or at least their favorite teachers, and that's cool, the respect you get and give them. Plus, people are alot less stupid, in general.

my 2 cents:

High school had its moments. I played modified football, ran cross country and track, and joined the golf team for a year. I participated in the school music every year and one year joined the Odyssey of the Mind team. I was in the National Honor Society. I did a lot of things while in high school but never stood out. I wasn't extremely popular nor did I want to be. I had friends that were popular and friends that were outcasts. Of course, after you're done you realize they aren't as close as you thought as you lose touch. There are also several moments during high school that you think are a big deal at the time but really aren't like Prom. I don't exactly rank it as a great memory. Graduation really isn't a big deal either. You have got to be a moron to not be able to graduate from high school. Of course if you're like me and score well, you're a nerd and rather than being commendable, its laughable.

College on the other hand is a much better situation. You meet people that you do stay in touch with. Everyone is there for the same reason and share your interests. There is no "cool" table in the cafeteria and graduation is a much bigger accomplishment.

And now that I'm finished with college, I wouldn't consider these the worse times of my life. Being "stuck" in a job is not a bad thing. I prefer walking into a building and being respected as opposed to worrying about what people are thinking.

Sure, high school was fun at times... but it shouldn't be the best times of your life. It should be a good time, but not the best. That really doesn't show much initiative for the future.

Well since everyone else had an opinion I might as well state mine too. The best times of your life can happen at any time, maybe someones was in elementary school, or high school, or university/college, maybe even out in the workforce. You can't say when the best years of someones life are going to be. It's for them to chooose, from their experiences. Maybe some people made some really great memories during high school, and had the best times there. They had their friends and all this stuff, and it was great. Then maybe stuff happened and they feel highschool was better than what happened after. I personally love it at the moment, sure there are jackasses and a bunch of shit goes on, but I feel safe, secure and just plain comfortable. I have my friends and I get to know people a lot more. Highschool is a time when people begin to find themselves and discover who they are, that's why it can arguably be the best time of someones life. You do learn a lot in highschool, maybe not academically, but you learn more about other people and a lot about yourself as well. You learn how to deal and how everything works. Right now I do feel this is the best time of my life, and I have met some very amazing people, who I never want to lose touch with. A lot of you will say I will, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't try, if you want to keep in touch with someone then you do, it doesn't matter when you met them. My grade 8 teacher once said to us that we would not be friends with the people we were friends with then. Well I'm better friends with some of the people I knew back then, I did lose touch with others, but that's because I chose to.

The only thing that bugs me about this thread is people saying when the best time of your life should be. Thus far in my 21 years, my 16th year as a junior was my favorite. So kiss my ass :D

I had a horrible time up until I was 15 though. HORRIBLE!

I think the best time of your life always seems to be the last great thing you did. For example, the best time of my life at this point was my wedding.

i agree that to have high school as the best time of your life is pretty pathetic/sad. not to say that high school sucks majorly or whatnot. high school has its uppity moments and shitty moments but overall its just. highschool. its fun, yes, and yeah i have friends and sometimes we have fun doing highschool-like things but at the end, i'll be glad to move onto something new.

and claire you summed up the crap parts of highschool really well  i hate the whispergossipness and the occasional jackasses.
