Did you guys stay until the little bit at the end?

I just saw it a second time and thought it was funny. Though, for the record, since all the nerds who really wanted to see this movie saw it opening weekend this theater was filled with people who never read the books. And apparently don't know how to laugh. It was rather disturbing. Me and my friend were laughing so hard and the rest of the theater was completly silent. I'm pretty sure we annoyed those who didn't laugh too, as we are very loud people.

It was good, not great, but good. They got sloppy on some of the animation, you can clearly see a lot of the backgrounds were throroughly detailed and then other things are very soft toned because they didn't animate them as well as they could have, like Zaphod's second head...

Other than the fairly apparent lazy effects, there were some great animated visuals that were necessary to tell this story. I'm glad it was held up in studio/production wars for so many years. If it were made 10 years ago, I don't think it would have worked out very well...

I agree.

I particularily liked the Magrathea scenes. Partly because of the stunning visual effects, and also because of the superb acting. I'm really pleased with Martin Freeman's reaction to seeing a planet factory. It's not just awe, but utter amazement, bringing him near to tears. Very well done.

I must say, I didn't really like Mos Def as Ford. He was so bland, in exactly the way Ford Prefect isn't.

Well, Douglas Adams did write the screenplay, and did come up with those ideas... Don't forget, this movie has been in the pre-production stages for years trying to get it made. (at least, I'm assuming they didn't add to and completely change Adams' screenplay ... it's one thing to change the plot to adapt a novel to the screen, but to change a screenplay completely...?)

But, it was still largely in the spirit of the novels. I would have liked the movie to be a lot better, and it could have been, but overall I'm satisfied with how it came out.

He was made with GPP (genuine people personality) by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation. He was actually a prototype (an unfortunate prototype, at that), infused with a depressed personality.

"It hated me because I talked to it."

"You TALKED to it?" exclaimed Ford. "What do you mean you talked to it?"

"Simple. I got very bored and depressed, so I went and plugged myself
into it's external computer feed. I talked to the computer at great length,
and explained my view of the universe to it, " said Marvin.

"And what happened? " pressed Ford.

"It committed suicide, " said Marvin, and stalked off back to the
Heart of Gold.

Also, he has a brain roughly equivilant in size to a small planet, yet he has to go about mundane tasks like bringing people from one place to another.

And he has constant pain shooting through the diodes on his left side.

You can imagine how little that helps his sorry state.

I love the addition of the POV gun, which I think/hope was added by Adams himself, and the way it contributed to the end of the movie. :nod:

I still think he's way too big. He should be small.

But I do like his overall shape. The way his head tilts down all the time is perfect.
