Yeah, I missed the Prosser conversation. It seems like the things that they cut out were the funniest. The film was left mostly like a hollow shell where the jokes used to be, leaving only enough to move the plot along.
I was also a little underwhelmed by the proclamation that the answer to life the universe and everything is 42. I mean, why was everyone still cheering and yelling while Deep Thought was talking. Everyone should have gone silent as she said "...and everything is *silence* FORTY TWO *continued silence* I told you you weren't going to like it..."-

True that. I think most of the jokes that were left out, were left out because they were only going to be funny in the books. Like they wouldn't have made a big impact in the movie for those who haven't read the books. And those who have were looking forward to them because it was really funny in the books.
Like my favorite part that I was looking forward to was also the whale bit. And I loved it on screen because I loved it in the book but I'm not sure I would have found it so funny had I not read it. I would have just thought it was random and cute.
I really can't say I was dissappointed though. I thought the trailers made the movie look silly and I was expecting something terrible, so I really liked it and I'll probably see it again.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

ah well. you guys have a good time
OT, i went to coles the other day and asked about a harry potter pre-release party, and the girl said that there would be one in coles at the mall, but apparently none at chapters this time.

so am i the only one who thought it was reeeeeally poorly done?
I went into it trying to like it, and trying not to be critical. I didnt have high expectations other than reading your posts before hand, so dont blame it on that either.
I think they dumbed down the whole thing a lot, took out all the witty dialogue, absolutely butchered zaphod's character, and made up far too many subplots.
And dont get me started on the love interest thing.
That being said, here's what i liked:
the dolphins and their song
the vogons
ford (minus the lack of witty dialogue)
i liked deep thought a lot (but i agree with rob on the 42 thing)
slartibartfast
the babelfish
the guide itself (except for too much narating)
marvin and the whale weren't bad
Hopefully i dont have any spoilers in there.... i dont think so, but if i do i apologise.

^5 claire!
i mean: trinity being kidnapped, the drawn out love interest, zaphod's confrontation with his political rival, the point-of-view gun, zaphod's brain held hostage...
i dont mind them not sticking perfectly with the novel, but i think the line of action was too far deferred even if it ended up in a lot of the same places.

I think the people that don't find it funny are the kind of people that don't think Shaun on the Dead or Napoleon Dynamite are funny.
