Where exactly is the need? So you can listen to the songs on one ipod for a year straight?

the need for increased storage isnt necessarily tied to music
personally, i have a hi-md player
i have some 400 songs on it.. i cant think of more to add to it
but where storage of this nature is useful is when its used as a storage device like i do with my blank mds.. i just save files to it.. for me, the thing might as well be a thumbdrive or what have you... i have 300 some megs of storage (i think.. i cant remember.. i have to format them to hi-md) but i can save what i want and take stuff off of the disk and use it like a portable hard drive
my bro and i for example will be doing some video conversion work and such this summer, we have a comp at home and one at my moms store.. both are powerful enough to work on, the store also has high-end copier/printers so if i want or need near photo quality printing to be done i can do it at the store and then go home.
a lot of folks need storage for that reason and thats why this kinda technology is important

My main reason for talking about music, is because that was what the flash file focused on.

music is the commercial aspect of the technology
they have to parlay the R&D budget into something commercial
the way i see it the ever increasing size of microdrives is a way for geeks to out do their rivals in terms of the size of uhh other things
