Yes it does. He was sick for a while now, due to a urinary tract infection which spread and lead to heart and kidney failure and other stuff.

I knew when they said he took a turn for the worse he would die. You got to realize he was an old man in bad health.. My co-worker and i were talking aobu this todya. it is a sad day casue he was such a spiritual leader to so many inthe world.. It is like when Mother teresa died.. unfortunately once the human leaves this world you feel a lose. but the soul lives on..

my coworker was talking aobut when ribbi died here in nyc. they actually have a guard watching over a plague they made for him. nobody lives forever..

all we can do now is try to spread peace through out our own communities.. I don't agreee with alot of the things the Catholic Chruch was for, but I don't disrepect any person's religious beliefs or lack of them for that matter.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

He lead a full life, had we experienced half of the things he did-we would say that we had lived a full life aswell. I just envy his dying experience. In my personal belief, I think that once a person is close to death, they experence a moment of self-actualization and realization. How amazing must have his been? I mean, he's met so many people, seen so many places and experienced so many things. It would be amazing to see how it all "clicked" for him as his life neared its end. Though I didn't agree with him on some issues, I respect his spirituality and believe that he was a good man at heart. May he rest in peace.

Actually it makes perfect sense. He's always in and out of being sick, its been like this for years. Naturally, because he's been "close" many times, I assumed this was another one of those times. To me, it was very fast. I clicked on the news, Friday afternoon and he was "in bad shape". This isnt anything new for the news to report. This morning, i clicked it on again, and he is dead.

Fast.

I wonder if mass will be extra long tomorrow. Irina is coming along for historical purposes

It did happen fast. Think of it this way though. He dedicated his life to the service of God. In the Christian religion Heaven is home and our time spent here on Earth is just a vacation from there. Our bodies are just tents to hold the soul until it comes time to return home. The Pope is in now in Heaven. He's finally found peace and returned home. Don't be sad, I'm sure he wasn't sad when he realized he was going to die.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

I'm Catholic and while I don't believe there is one person out there who is closer to God than anyone else, there is no doubt that the Pope was an extraordinary man.

Sure, I didn't agree with everything he said but he really took his title seriously...he did way more than all the other popes before him had done. He was a big part in destroying communism in Poland and he tried to fix relations with other religious communities. He even apologized to the scientific community about Galileo. Back in '81 when there was an assassination attempt made on him, he actually visited the guy who tried to kill him (I believe he was Muslim) and forgave him! :freak: I don't know anyone who would be willing to do that. The Pope also tried to reach out to young people which was a big thing 'cause the popes before him could have cared less, I suppose.

I also think his death came by pretty fast. Wasn't he really sick a month ago and suddenly got better? I think it's amazing how he suffered for so many years from all his health problems yet didn't slack off...he was still travelliing trying to visit as many people as he could right to the end. The guy had quite a bit of determination and it's unfortunate that he's gone now. But like Reza said, he must have gone through some self-actualization 'cause he really did make the most out of his life.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong

 you have to think it was his time to go. He accomplished everything he could, and now we pass the torch.
it's a sad time and all, but it's at least equally important to celabrate his life as it is to mourn.

I'd like to clarify that I'm not like... saying he should've died or anything... that'd just be... messed up. He was a very cool man from what I know, and it's very sad he's gone. But what I'm saying is... he was 84 years old... he had health problems for years... I don't understand how his dying was sudden or fast.

I think in the sense that he had a major health issue come up that was life threatening. If you look at it from a standpoint of his health deteriorating over the years, then it wasn't fast. But he was critically hospitalized just days ago, in that sense it was fast. I read the whole funeral/selection of a new pope process on cnn.com. Lots of elaborate work to be done.

Maybe your news is different to ours, but for me it's been obvious that over the last month or so things weren't looking good. Being admitted to hospital and having a trachy so that he could breathe was not a good sign. And for a few days before his death it seemed clear to me that his death was imminent. So personally I think I'm seeing it as somewhat drawn out which means I agree with Nikki.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

I feel bad he's gone, but he has been hovering for a long time. I feel worse for the people who are stout believers in Catholocism. The prophet is like 98 years old and I know it won't be long and I will be so sad when he goes.

When he was hospitalized this time, it was obvious it was worse than any other time. Pretty much everyone had expected it to pass. I don't think it was all that sudden considering he has been in bad shape for the past two months. Also, on Friday they had done much more than just report he was in bad shape. The Vatican by then had admitted that he would most likely not recover. They had also given him his last rites. Furthermore, they even stated that he was expected to pass sometime during the night or during the night. In that respect, it shouldn't really be all that shocking to hear.
