So i have to get some online statistics for my class at queens here, and what better people to help than the CMers.

So here is the question:

If your city was using more power then could be produced by a local power plant, so the construction of new one was necessary, would you have a problem with a nuclear power plant being built outside of your city?

Keep in mind this plant would be built were no other infrastructures currently exist, and that the plant would be up to all Canadian Codes. As well as there would be a board of people from the public to address all concerns before any construction took place.

Thanks

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

couple of questions:

is the industry de-regulated?
what town would this be in, and what other measures are available to you. (example, next to paciffic, desalination plant, or high winds 10 months out of the year, so those windmillthings.)
Whenever death may surprise us,
let it be welcome
if our battle cry has reached even one receptive ear
and another hand reaches out to take up our arms.

Nobody's gonna miss me, no tears will fall, no ones gonna weap, when i hit that road.
my boots are broken my brain is sore, fer keepin' up with thier little world, i got a heavy load.
gonna leave 'em all just like before, i'm big city bound, your always 17 in your hometown

The proposed site is outside of montreal, which means it will use the st lawrence for cooling waters.

Although wind in the future may be a viable source of power, currently wind turbines dont produce enough power to support a city of montreal's size.

But isnt Nuclear power cleaner and more efficient? The only downside I can see is the small chance of a meltdown

the water used to cool the reactor gets heated and dumped into rivers and lakes where the temperature changes fucks shit up and kills everything.

The residual effects of it are much better then that from coal. Also, the large problem with the water warming effect is in lakes not rivers. In lakes it creates a pool of warm water, in a flowing environment like a large river, the effects are not all that evident as water is quickly mixed and you don't get the thermal plumes associated with plants that are placed beside lakes.

Also, ideas are floating around to use that excess heat to melt parking lots in the winter, significantly cooling the water before it goes back into the river.
