Hockey Returns

Post by Xavier870 »

I don't know how many of you have been keeping up to date with the NHL lockout, but rumour has it the lockout will be coming to an end in the very near future.

According to the blogger known only as Eklund, both the NHL and NHLPA have been making things look much worse than they actually are. Apparently the two sides have met every day for the past 5 days now, despite what they say. The teams will meet again tomorrow in what will apparently be the smallest groups yet. But make no mistake, Gary Bettman and Bob Goodenow will be there via conference call. If Bob Goodenow does make the trip to New York tomorrow, it will only be to sign the agreement. I, as most of you reading this, was skeptical at first, but after reading the blog through, and seeing what this guy has come up with... I have no choice but to believe him. He posted details of the owner's proposal a week or more before media outlets got a hand on them. He nailed it. He nailed the small discussion groups. He nailed conference calls, and other small meetings. This guy is the real deal.

But of course it all makes sense. The owner's weren't going to budge on their cost certainty, and the players knew that. The owner's really had nothing to lose, most of them owning other business to gain a source of income. The players, even under a salary cap, would make more money than they could ever make playing in European leagues or semi-pro leagues. It's really a no-brainer. Also, what have they been discussing for the past four days, and 20+ hours of talks? A salary cap the whole time? Don't kid yourself. There will be hockey this season. It will begin March 1, a 30 game season, most games against divisional opponents.

Now we can start to ask other questions.

Which free agents (and there are a lot of them) will end up on what teams?

Will Boston, with only 11 players under contract, frantically put a team together, or tank the season with Washington, Pittsburgh, and New York in an attempt to draft Sidney Crosby?

How will the high payroll teams (Toronto, Philly, Dallas, Detroit) get down underneath a $42 million cap?

When will Gary and Bob be fired?

If anyone wants to see this guys blog, it can be found here.

GO LEAFS GO!!

Yeah I gotta go with Lori on this one. I had hope, but that hope turned into seasons passes for junior hockey. The lockout is SO stupid. I hate how players are complaining about salary cuts yet they're all playing for ALOT less in foreign and junior leagues and teams. Whatever.

you have to, you just have to trust me
whoever i was then i can't ever be again
the faith you've found i've never felt
the terror held in wedding bells
the comfort in "there's no one else"
the truth be told, i'm never going to know

See how quickly WE came to an agreement? That took like 10 minutes. We were just persistent, and did what we knew was right for the board. We met regularly, and talks were civil and uncer control. If only the NHL and NHLPA would take us as an example.

Hey, that makes a lot of sense.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

it takes 2 to tango as they say and as long as the league (read: gary bettman and his potentially million dollar bonus based solely on the league getting a salary cap) continues its hardass stance of "cap or fuck you"
well
fuck you
is all theyll get
eventually something will be worked out
but for the good of teh game
fire bettman and goodenow
hire me and me
go fuck yourself.
