OMFG, that is freaking ridiculous, this is a whole new low. I can't even find the words to describe how I feel right now. So the people that they went to Iraq to "liberate" should now have their civil liberties limited?

Yeah. In America. The Land of the Free.

Thank God this is only an opinion poll.

The sad thing is, many of the people who feel this way are probably just utterly consumed by fear, thanks to the manipulations of the media and the absurdities put forth by the administration. They're just bombarded by terror from sources they should be able to trust. They're being manipulated.

I feel sick.

Personally, I wonder how many didn't understand the question as well...

44% is high, but also remember that in France muslim children are not allowed to wear headscarfs in class. That is a restriction on liberties and beliefs.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

There is a difference between not allowing girls to wear headscarfs in public school, and making people who were born under a certain religion put their names on a registry, so the Land Of The Free can keep tabs on them. .

They're still both constricting civil libirties, one isn't better than the other.

Technically you're on a registry. The government knows where you work, and can find other various information through your SIN card and other documentation. The only difference between that, and a muslim list is the title.

By no means am I saying that this isn't a big deal, but it is certainly not something that is uncommon.

This is true. I still hate that 44% put their own personal paranoia over other people's rights, though.

Weren't they proposing bringing that in in canada?
It's not just muslim headscarfs, it's anything at all that is an overtly religious symbol.

Well I believe the reasoning in France was that the headscarfs may be distracting to other students. Kind of like how Catholic high schools make their students wear uniforms instead of "distracting" common clothing. Either way, it is not just America that is doing this. Maybe before these stats are posted we should look around the world for other examples. Dig enough and you'll find plenty.
