im just curious how many people support a charity and which ones and maybe include a link thanks.

Being a student makes it hard to have expendable income to spend on charities. When I do get older and am capable, I plan on supporting the local (wherever local may be) arts scene, and some other various groups I'm sure.

im not a student and i find it difficult, i would like to give more but its just not possible , not now anyways

Throughout the year I make several donations to:

The Children's Miracle Network http://www.cmn.org/
United Way of America http://national.unitedway.org/
East Tennessee Children's Hospital http://www.etch.com/

Wal-Mart also has an internal charity, Associates in Critical Need, which helps associates who have experienced loss from natural disasters, fires, etc. Someday I would also like to donate to the Make a Wish Foundation http://www.wish.org/ .

First 2 are my main ones, last 3 I donate when I can:

Toronto Humane Society: http://www.torontohumanesociety.com/index.html (every 2-3 months with a cash donation and every few months i send care packages from their wish list of things they need for the animals like treats and toys and blankets/towels)

The last three not as often, probably about every 3-4 months with cash donations and once in awhile I buy things from the peta store. I've always wanted to sponsor a child overseas too but I've heard some shady things about some of those organizations so I don't know which is a good organization and which is a bad one so for now I stick to animals.

I don't donate to many charities, but I volunteer at my hospital once a week. I have for about 4 years now actually. And when I was in high school we had a Peace and Justice society that would raise money for charities, organize food banks and blood drives and the such.

I also harassed those people soo much to try and do "keep the beat" but it never happened. I wish it had though.

Part of my Global Issues class last year was to go to Amnesty.org and send off letters of appeal every week.

Other then volunteer work, I guess I don't do much for charities because I don't have the money for it.

i don't donate money, but i volunteer with the NCC, which raises money for the Canadian Cancer Society (through my school), and volunteer with easter seals too.

The closest thing I've done for charity is I started and organized a walk for our local hospital at my school. It was to help put in dialysis machines at the hospital because the closest hospital with the machines was 25 mins away. We raised a little over $1000 which wasn't too bad considering I did it on my own.

They continued the walk last year for a different charity, so I guess maybe I started an annual event.

I donate to the charities when my school sets them up, like terry fox and stuff like that. I give some money, but I don't have a job and am in highschool so it's hard to give much. My school did raise $5000 for cancer research though.

I don't give to charities yet, cos I'm poor... but when I get a job and have enough to spare, I'll definitely start... probably with the American Cancer Society.

Even though you don't have a job you could still give some time to a charity instead of money Nikki.

Part of my tution at queens is given to charities. You can opt out, but when your forking out 8 grand whats another buck or two.

Anyway, as I said up there ^ somewhere, I'm gonna start donating now that I have a job and enough money to do so.

I was hoping to donate to a charity that feeds hungry children all over the world, but the only ones I can find seem to have a Christian agenda... and, with apologies to any of the Christians on here, but as an atheist, I don't really like supporting that aspect of the charities.

Anyone have any that feed kids with none of that side religious stuff? :uhh:

I dislike that the American Cancer Society only has 2 stars, but it still seems to be the best general cancer charity, and I'm familiar with it. Anyone have any better? (This one looks pretty good and it got 4 stars: http://www.nationalcancercoalition.org/ ... I've never heard of it before, though... any thoughts?)
