And do you agree that this man is a good influence on his new daugter?

"Look at what daddy had done to himself!"

... next day in the E.R.

"I just wanted to be like you, Daddy."

Yeah. Real great.

In that aspect, I agree that he probably shouldnt have children, because they have been known to mimic their parents. :|

Especially when he tells her that he did it for her. If my dad did that i'd want his head to get checked.

Well, I'd go the other way. If he's going to have children, he needs to stop this stuff and realize his responsibility. As much as he wants to mutilate himself, he has to stop.

Just like if a woman slept around a lot, and then had a kid (not a difficult situation to imagine, heh), she'd have to change her ways in order to be responsible and set a good example for her daughter. It's one thing for the mother to be open with her daughter about sex when she's older, but having men in and out (of the house, you pervs) when she's just a small child is going to set a horrible example.

Just like if this guy wants to be open with his daughter about "visual modification" when she's older and can make her own decisions ... fine. I don't agree with it, but let her make her own decisions. But cutting yourself "for" her ... that's way too much. Especially when she's way too young to understand.

Ya I dunno what to say... It's a nice gesture I guess in some sort of way but there are better things to do for your daughter... you know maybe start up a trust fund or an RESP...

Usually my parents just gave me gifts and a cake, possibly a party.... I'd be a little disturbed if one of my paretns went out and got their skin cut off for my birthday...if you're gonna do that a tatoo would have worked alright.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

How is doing something concidered rebelious being irresponsible? Given, that yes, I think that whole ripping skin off is a little too far, but doing things like getting piercings and tattoos and other stuff he has done isn't what I would concider irresponsible.
If he was a druggie alcoholic that neglected his family and was so completly immature that he was doing shit like this all the time just for the hell of it, then yeah, I'd concider his to be irresponsible. But to grow up with a figure in your life that taught you that conformity was not the only option, and that you can be a good person while being individualistic and challenging the boundries of the normal society would be very healthy. Its better then growing up in Stepford.

Maybe I'm just saying all this because I support people doing that are a little out of the ordinary if its for some other reason then "I felt like it" and I think this guy has thought it through. But I can't really compare it to my own experiences since my parents were nothing like them. All I know is that I have absolutely no reason to knock this guy. Other then the whole...bloody mess thing.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

His body his choice. I'm just thinking it's a little weird that in celebration of your daughters birthday you do that. And without anesthetic OUCH!

It's not just "his body" anymore though. He has a young child. A young, impressionable child. What he did was dangerous. Weird, yes. Painful, yes. But above all else, it was dangerous. If a kid sees daddy with a tattoo, he'll draw one on with his crayolas. If a kid sees daddy with an earring, he'll clip a paperclip on there. If he sees daddy with scars intentionally put on his body by having comeone cut him and rip away his skin ... what the hell is the kid going to do to emulate that?

Eeek. Those pics were a bit icky to me, although I'm really fascinated by body modification type stuff. I'd never do any of it cuz I think it's all fucking crazy as hell (just getting my nose pierced was crazy enough for me), however, like I said I find it fascinating. That's why I can spend a lot of time at bmezine.com, very interesting/sometimes disturbing stuff.
don't look now, just keep watching the TV hating what's too see waiting for someone to say something that's right.
