Straylight Run

Post by olpcc »

I couldn't find the old thread... well most of the album is availble online now

has anyone heard, I unfortunately thik they overprocuded it. the new songs i have heard are good though, and are not dissapointing cause we didn't have demos. Its not bad though by all means.

the song i think that suffered the most is existentialism on prom night, and now its on the radio too.

review from absolutepunk, i personal think this review is a piece of shit, but whatever

I remember walking out of the Blind Pig when I saw Straylight Run. Waste of my time...except for the fact that I got to see Murder By Death, which was undoubtedly worth the $10.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

well murder by death is definately far better then straylight, matt was also well worth the 10 bucks, although the crowd sucked ass. Straylight i thought put on a good show too, but i was right in front of michelle so my opinion could have been messed up.

I actually really enjoy most of the new songs, dignity and money is good, toolshed and hot tubs i like cause i like michelle's voice, and then sympathy for the martyr is pretty good.

Where did you find the new tracks?
Just because I am sexy, naked, a bassist, and sporting a top hat doesn't make me Duncan Coutts!

i have seen straylight 3 times too, so i obviously like the live show a little, I think i still will like the live show(unless they play bigger venues) because they can't screw with john's voice too much

Murder by Death sucks.

The new CD is actually very good. I thought it was going to suck, since I was unimpressed by the demos.

yea okay...that was a well formed opinion right there.

I dont think the new songs that over-produced but I only have the first four tracks so far. I actually love "Another Word for Desperate" since I have only heard it live. Exestentialism sounds pretty good as well but I dont like the first song on the album.

It is just funny that they are going to be so popular b/c John was in Taking Back Sunday otherwise this kind of music is rarely played on the radio.

I don't think the songs on the album and the demos sound all that different from each other. It's just the context you hear them in. Sort of how you might hear a song on the radio and not like it, but then hear the song on the album with 11 other songs from the same group, and that song will then sound better.

And if you want me to elaborate on my distaste for Murder by Death:

All of their songs sound same, and I can't really stand the lead singer's faux Nick Cave impression. It's all very monotonous. There.

well considering he has changed his style of singing on both albums i wouldn't say that that is a great elaboration, and that also makes it hard forsongs to sound the same. plus that was only one line.

A person doesn't need to be wordy to elaborate on something, chief. And I'm referring only to the actual album where they went under the moniker of Murder by Death. I haven't heard the other album when they were called something else. Monotonous and boring pretty much covers that particular album. But...

They're trying to be original, and it's not quite working. Like I said, the singer sounds like he's trying to be Nick Cave, and perhaps since the album is a "concept album" based around one story, they felt that most of the songs needed to sound the same. The same tempo, the same drony vocals, the same quasi-creepy musical arrangements. Maybe mixing it up with some of the other songs prior to the name and style change makes for a better listening experience, I don't know. I just think that album drones on for 50 minutes with no real musical climax in any of the songs, except maybe the first one. It was really the only one I could listen to repeatedly.
