Right to bear...AK-47s?

I just had a question for all the people who are for owning guns for personal use. Does it not bother any of you, how machines that were designed to kill are so easily bought and accessed?

Am I alone in my sentiment that its frightening?[And Thats away from my general Paranoia of Guns.]

I think if you asked the general sportsman who buys guns for hunting or comptetition, they would tell you that buying a gun is a pain in the ass. I have been part of the selling process for so long that I know what to bring and what to fill out when I buy one, so it's no biggie to me. Again, not every gun that comes from the factory is designed to kill. Your paranoia of guns is based on a traumatic event and I understand why you don't like them. I feel that whenever a person attempts to legally purchase a firearm there are enough checks and procedures in place.

Guns for protection is an oxymoron unless you're a cop who goes after criminals who could be armed. If you were to get mugged or held up or something and you pulled out a gun too, your chances of getting shot just went way up. Guns spread fear. The more guns people buy for protection the more other people think "oh my God, they have a gun, i must need one too." They buy a gun then, and then others do and the news says "there has been an increase in gun sales." Then after that their might be something about a shooting or gang related incident or something which spreads more fear which means more guns. They are using your fear to get your business.

Mike Turner, who used to play guitar in Our Lady Peace btw, told me something once that applies here. we were talking about the superbombs they're going to have in the future and he said that we might not want to develop them, but we will have no choice.

because if we don't, the terrorists will.

same logic applies here. if you don't want a gun, fine, don't own one. just keep in mind that the bad guys are packing.

Like Matt said, not all guns are designed to kill. I actually live in the backyard of Browning Firearms, I have seen no negative impact in my community because of it. It does bother me that people use guns to kill. It does irk me extremely that people want the government to babysit. If you own a gun, be responsible enough to keep it from your children. It all comes down to parental responsibility. If people did that, gun crime would go down tremendously. Like you said, where there's a will, there's a way. All more restrictions will do is make it so I can't get one because I would do it legally, and some freak would be able to get it out of the back of a van. I don't know about you, but I'd feel alot more comfortable with a shotgun to protect me than without one during a break in.

Using Mike Turner as Pathos really hits home, but I have to disagree. Keeping on par with terrorists and criminals is the government's job, not a citizen's. If there's a criminal running loose in my neighborhood, I'm going to call the police, not match his Ak-47 with a bazooka.

Also, superbombs are a part of an arms race that has yet to happen. Gun control is not an arms race. I'm competing with degenerates and america's enemies to see who has the bigger gun. Some people who feel like they need protection are perfectly content with mace.

And why do people need to aggressively protect themselves? Install a bulgular alarm in your house if you're concerned about your safety. It's the safer and more reasonable option.

but if you live in the country and the sheriff's station is several miles away and you don't have neighbors? then what? what good is an alarm if no one can hear it, and the sheriff's fat ass takes too long to get to your place?

A gun isn't much chop either if he takes you by surprise. There's a whole realm of what if's. We could debate this round and round in circles. if you're really concerned about house security. Put bars on the windows and a security door.

I agree. But if someone feels safer having a gun as protection, let them. It does no one any harm (unless you decide to break in, in which case that's your problem).

My question then is how can some of you people be for restricting marijuana access, but not guns? You use the exact same argument, if criminals or people in general want something they'll get it, making it illegal just makes it harder to control.

But in general, if its illegal, most law abiding citizens wont use them. It's a fallacy to believe that legalisation of what ever will lead to greater control. That's horseshit. You'll still get the same group of people who use it the illegal way. No one's particularly concerned about the university student who has a couple of pot plants in his garden shed. They are concerned with the people that grow massive plantations out in the forests. The same with guns. No one is worried about the people who have a pea shooter in their attic. They're worried about the guys who grabbed one from the underground and held up the local conveniance store with it.

Uhm, because marijuana is a drug and a gun isn't. Yes, guns kill people, but not the way I use them.
