i had to format today because my computer crapped out last night

To prevent programs from starting up when you boot your computer, you go on your start menu to "run", then type in "msconfig". In the window that pops up, you'll wanna go to the "Startup" tab. In there, you can uncheck anything that you don't want starting up with your computer. Voila.

Does anyone know a good website where you can see all the places to download with mIRC and all that? I had all these nifty settings but then when I reformatted I can't remember where anything is.

Anyone got any good pop up blockers for IE? I've tried the msn and google toolbar but neither work very well. I do use Mozilla alot but for some things I need IE and don't want a bizillion popups.

Gosh, it's one thing after another. I keep getting signed out of msn randomly. I'm not losing my connection. boo.

I found google tool bar worked wonders. anyways Service pack 2 for XP, IE now comes with its own popupblocker.

The popup blocker I got from Kym is the best I've ever seen. It's a simple little program that'll sit in your system tray and you simply click it to turn it on or off. It's called (get ready for this crazy name!!!) "PopupRemover", and it's made by Yoconsoft.

First of all you might want to try scanning for spyware using Ad-aware or Spybot. If your getting a lot of pop ups its because you have spyware on your system. A pop up blocker may stop them from comming up, but they will still be on your system nonetheless.

A reformat just to get rid of spyware?!? There are easier ways.

Cass what version of ad-aware do you have. The newest is Ad-aware SE personal. It has to be downloaded from their site. Previous versions wont auto update to it.

There is no good version of Ad-Aware. They'll all screw up your registry like there's no tomorrow, plus miss a TON of adware and spyware.

Get Spybot.

Rubbish. Ive never had any problems. Run reg mechanic to clean up your registry as well and everything is schmick! having said that. What Spy-Bot doesn't get, Ad-Aware will and vice versa.
