A beach can be a beach without sand. I'm sure places like Nunavut have beaches, i'm also sure they don't have sand.

but there are lots of beaches that have sand even if they are not ocean beaches.
for example, sandy beach has sand. and thats from a lake.

see here in florida
we're smart
we have beaches that are ocean side
but we dont let.. like.. you know.. nature do its thing
nope.. no sirree bob.. yearly, jacksonville beach, (which is for the record naturally sandy and not rocky, just not "Sandy enough for tourists") trucks in loads of sand to complement the natural sand that exists.. heh

I haven't been here for about a month, so I'm not sure if this was mentioned before.. but what do you guys think about countries that pay their athletes for winning medals. In China, if you win the gold the government will give you about $250,000..I hear they do that in the US too. Do you guys think Canada would get more medals if our government paid athletes for winning?

They need to fund at the grassroots. Make sport a lifestyle choice. We're already one of the fattest countries in the world. If you get kids involved in sport at a young age it can lead to a better quality of life, and from those children you're bound to get those that can compete at the elite level.
Providing money for golds is a cop out. An elite athlete cannot possibly perform better than they already are performing if there is a monetary reward. The gold medal itself already drives athletes to their capacity. Trust me on that.

We do that, too... it's to prevent beach erosion... and the reason why some of our beaches are like deserts to walk through before you hit ocean.

There was an article in the newspaper today about how half of our gold medal winners went to private schools, when only 7% of the population goes to those schools. The money's definitely needed at the grassroots level as people have already said.
