Sorry guys, I have a 50-hour schedule this week, and my one day off was spent with my girlfriend seeing the Walkmen and Sound Team. I'll post a recommendation later tonight...sorry guys.

Alright, I need to get off my ass, sit on my ass and write a recommendation right now, so here we go.
My choice for today has to be Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand I decided to pick this album because my anticipation for GBV's final release is driving me insane and I felt I should let you all into indie-rock's best secret right before they end a stellar career.
Now I know when I made my triumphant return to the board, I ranted and raved about Robert Pollard and his prolific songwriting abilities and musical genius for a couple weeks, and for a damn good reason. And that reason is that there's no one out there like Bob Pollard anymore.
Despite the lo-fi recording of this album (it sounds like the band walked into a moldy basement, turned on their 4-track, and started playing) none of the sound on Bee Thousand gets compromised. "Buzzards and Dreadful Crows" still has all the guitar sounding as crisp as a $500 recording can produce. "The Goldheart Mountaintop Queen Directory" still has sincerity in its nonsensical, but catchy, lyrics.
The beautiful thing about GBV is that they can produce the catchiest songs possible with a complete lack of effort. Robert Pollard spends maybe 15 minutes with a pen and produces some of the catchiest pop songs not known to the world. This album, and these songs in particular clearly show it.
The song "Tractor Rape Chain" is GBV's anthem and a staple at their live performances. It combines a small amount of words, catchy guitar, and lo-fi profuction to make an absolutely amazing song. "Hot Freaks" takes a song with odd lyrics, mixes it with heavy beats, and revolves around the chorus of Robet Pollard belting "Hoooooot Freaks!" "Echoes Myron" packs simplistic (yet intense) lyrics, a catchy rhythm, and well-places harmonies into a 1:30 song. The most underrated song on the album, "Gold Star For Robot Boy," starts off with a bang when the guitar kicks in, immediately followed by Pollard's pseudo-British accented voice, and finishes within a minute of its start.
This album's only shortcoming is its brevity, with 20 tracks only totaling a whopping 36 minutes. But that's the beauty of GBV, they only need a minute-and-a-half to record an amazing pop song and be content with it. No song on this album falls limp or leaves you with an incomplete feeling, and that's saying a lot for an album with only two songs that make it past the 3 minute mark.
Recommended listenings: Hardcore UFO's, Buzzards and Dreadful Crows, Tractor Rape Chain, Hot Freaks, Echoes Myron, Gold Star For Robot Boy, I Am A Scientist
I'd like for you all to check these guys out now, because their end is coming on Dec. 31 in Chicago. After that show, a band with over 40 studio releases is ending their stellar career, and indie rock is losing its most accomplished band. August 24th marks the release date of their final work, "Half Smiles of the Decomposed" and it promises to be a fitting end for this band. Check them out now before you listen to them a year from now and realize you'll never get to hear new work from Guided By Voices or see them live.
