OlP's Magangement / Label
I just want to say it seems that they're pretty cool to OLP, giving them what seems to be an unlimited amount of time to work on there current album. According to OLP.cc they were slated for a september release an have pushed it back. I know a lot of major lables want and album out on a certain date or else, a lot of times they don't care about the musicainship they just want something out under a band's name.
However, according to Jeremy "Vampires" refers to record lables, so there has to be some kind of bad feelings in there. Maybe they're trying to push OLP towards a more "pop" sound where it seems like olp wants to have a harder edge rock sound.. who knows...
Ok i'm done rambling now... your thoughts?

Because OLP was going ever-so-pop with Spiritual Machines, then changed their sound and became different from every other band out there with Gravity. Yeah.
Maybe Sony wouldn't want a pop sound from them if they didn't put out a Nickelback record back in 2002. That's just my thoughts on the whole record label thing.

I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

even if they spent two years i wouldnt say that that's a long time to record an album... i 'd rather have a really good record than one released early

It still hasn't been very long since Gravity, compared to how long most bands take between albums.

Oh god, please go back and edit that last part, it's only going to lead to trouble.
As far as my other posts, I guess what I mean is that usually when there is a date set (more often then not) by the record company, they usually push you really hard to get the record out by that date. Hell Sonic Youth back in the day, had bits of there session eaten by the tape machine, and because they had to get the record out they were forced to litterly use sullaphane tape to try and put it back together. Lables can be VERY demanding about when a record is to be out. It's just cool to see that they pushed their original date back whether it was set in stone or not. A lot of times you've had to made it to a certain point in your musical career before you're granted unlimited time to work on your album (i.e. radiohead, U2)
A reason why they're probably not pushing it is because the American label has probably realized OLP are never going to be a force in the USA. They will never become a huge band in the states, but rather one of those second tier bands that will pull in an average amount of sales consistently because of their history.
On the Canadian side, they don't want to oversaturate the market with OLP. People will get tired of them and I think that's really noticeable when you look at album sales from Clumsy to SM. 3 albums released in a short amount of time probably killed off a lot of fans who just got tired of them. The label also knows that whenever they release an album they're still going to have a top selling album in Canada, so there isn't much strategy needed to determine a release date.

I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

I don't want to assume anything, but I doubt the lable gave them a date or shit like that, they probably just told them to go record an album. What I've gathered from different bands and shit is that lables have a tendancy to listen to the album they have recorded, and tell them what to change. My guess would be now they are re-recording or recording new songs that wern't in the original plan. Besides, its not like they need to prove they can write an album.
You know whats weird, it seems that there are a couple of songs that show Raines frustration with record companys, but it doesn't seem like he has done jack shit with his own.

I think bands only have to release a certain amount of records in a time period. Not necesarily take a limited time to make one.
OLP have spoiled us. They gave us 3 CD's in 4-5 years( Naveed was released 94 in CA) and then give us 3 more in 3 years. We gotten use to getting a new cd every year that when they take a normal amount of time to record we think they are taking long.
I only wonder if this record completes their deal with SONY. it will be the 7th release.

I don't know what they are signed with(deal wise). It just seems alot of bands have a 5-7 record release deal with the record compaines. That is why you may get a greatest hits, Live, or some kind of remix cd. To finish out their contracts.

if olp do have issues with their managment...maybe it isnt the smartest thing to insultthem so much publicly. sony has treated olp fantastically, getting their albums lots of media hype, giving fantastic video budgets and not to mention that they offered them a record contract after they only played 12 shows!
i think the band is making a horrible decision if they do indeed leave sony...maybe they should just re-negotiate for better terms aka. full artistic power, better advertising in europe and states etc.
i admit that ive thought the same thing

Management ≠ Label.

You also have to remember that they signed them at a time when it was fine to take risks on artists because labels had money to spare. Bands don't get the luxury OLP got in the 90's.

Not saying that's what's happening, but you never know.
A couple of points ... no one has said, or really indicated that OLP wants to leave sony. Also, from the interviews OLP gave during their last tour it sounded like they were eager to go back to work with Bob Rock.
