omg this sounds like fucking otown or some shit
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

it's simply a meh, It doesn't compare to the juno version. The thing I like about the live version at the Juno's is the rawness, the energy, the yelling. Raine yelled the chorus. in the studio version, there is like chimes or something in the backround, the chorus has bad lyrics and he doesn't yell. It's just too poppish. I thought Not Afraid wouldbe one of the highlighs of the new album but when I heard the studio verson it shook my faith in the new record. One word to describe the new Not Afriad from the studio would be LIFELESS.

One would expect the live version to have more yelling, more energy, be more intense and so on...just compare all the songs on the live album with their studio version...

...And one would notice a lack of falsetto and effort, but with lots of choreographed guitar solos and plotted voice inflections. I'll put it this way, if you plan it, it's not energy, it's just choreographed bullshit you'd expect from a boy band. It was done every single show of the tour, so it's not special.

Now to bring it back to the new song, it still sucks. There's nothing special about it, weak lyrics, weak subject, boring music, yeah, it's for the sucks.

And that's that.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

............

shhhhhhh

people don't like that kind of honesty around here
"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

I've been trying to hold off on my opinion for so long, but these newbies are really driving me back to my old self. It's kind of cute how wide-eyed they are, but they still don't know that their older stuff was, in fact, their best.

Bu the way, Matt, please make an application for getting on this board. If they spell words with numbers, please please please don't accept them. I can't handle this anymore.

Do you honestly want a board full of people saying "I hate OLP's new stuff- I wish they would go back to what they were doing", or vice versa- "I love Gravity"?

If everyone agreed with one another, there would be no point in posting- at least in the band related topics.

I think since we all heard the first version of Not Afraid from the Juno's, our opinions have been biased regarding this studio version. I showed the song to a few of my friends that are not big olp fans and they thought it was a pertty good song. It's diffrent, but we still dont even know what the album will be like.

Personnally I like Walking in Circles' style of music. I just hope that they dont polish it as much as Not Afraid if its on the new album.

i hate the ppl that think fans that have only just registered on here are short term fans and have no idea about the music. old and new.

its all opinion, if someone likes the new stuff... let them!!!! if they like the old stuff, let them!!! me? i like it all, i think Clumsy and Spiritual Machines are the best albums... because they're querky and beautiful songs

yeh, they played old songs better... but its hard to have any kind of REAL opinion just yet as Steve has only been playing the old songs for a couple of years

i love Not Afraid :D:D:D

At the same time, shouldn't you extend the same courtesy to Alan, Jeff, and Robbo? Not that I'm picking sides (I enjoy the band's music new and old), but remember opinion is a 2 way street.
