Here's my theory on how Nickelback got away with this.

People that have ears for good, distinguishable music don't listen to garbage like Nickelback.

People that want to get drunk and grab some titties and puke all over themselves listen to Nickelback. They also have no taste, nor do they care about the music.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Well I sure as hell never would have noticed that, because I am tone deaf and I don't know crap about music. All I know is what I like, and I always hated Nickelback. Maybe it was subconscious. That was so awesome, I can't believe no one pointed it out before. I'm going to send that link to my local morning show, that would rock so much if they played it.

Hmmm. I loved "How You Remind Me" but up until the last (the first?) thread about this, I knew that "Someday" reminded me of something else...
"if the nuremberg trials were applied to us foreign policy, every us president since 1945 would have been hanged." noam chomsky.

...and this is me hanging on / i'd burn our initials in the sun if it would shine / anxiety chokes me like razor wire / if hate's in your heart man, you'll take what you're given / wake up / i'm not the only one / it's never goodbye / go ahead and play dead / if everyone's a casualty, then take your time, there ain't no trouble / these wounds they will not heal / ambition can be a tricky thing / what the hell do i know about rape anyway? / this is not what i hoped for / ain't it so weird how it makes you a weapon / who will be there to tell me how stupid i am? / those living for death will die by their own hand / and it's me that I am spying on / pick up the pieces and live with the stars / hurry up and wait / things have never been so swell / they're always the ones who slowly drift / be great / ...and this is my world.

Its like the white stripes say
songs are just verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, chorus.

Its too easy to formulate these days. There are thousands of bands that you could do that to. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if you could do it to OLP.

i'm sorry the stripes didn't say that. That was Kurt Cobain. I have his diary its in there. But as for nickelback, did anyone see that matthew good article about his new album where he says when you Took the lyrics out of one song it was basically one of their other songs. so people have been doing it for long before Nickelback, even one of the best bands in the world The Who.

You can do that with Britney Spears' "Oops I did it again" and "Hit me one more time" (or whatever they're called). Two women sang them both on Just for Laughs, hilarity ensued.

I have never read Cobains diary, nor do I plan to. What I said was part of advertising for The White Stripes Elephant.

I like both of those Nickelback songs. I would never buy any of their albums and I'd never go out of my way to listen to their songs, but if it's being played on the radio I'm not going to turn the station just because they have two hit singles in the same key.

It's not just that they're the same key (though they clearly are). The structures are absolutely identicle. The exact same breaks, the exact same emphasis put on the exact same parts. It's crazy how exactly alike these songs are.

Yuck. Nickleback makes me want to gag. Seriously...some bands I don't like...but Nickelback is like....the Worst Band Ever. I can't believe I just listened to their songs of my own free will, even if it was just to prove how awful they are. *shudders*
don't look now, just keep watching the TV hating what's too see waiting for someone to say something that's right.

I actually just heard my friend talk about this a few days ago. I'm glad this was posted. It's terrible... oh my. I want to see someone do this with bands that have real talent. I'd be interested to see how it would sound... yeah, i'm weird

if you listen close to someday, you can easily tell its sped up. not to mention they cut parts out here and there to make the two match. its been messed with. try getting both the tracks and mixing them your self.

<p>And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping. The moon tells me a secret. My confidant. As full and bright as I am, this light is not my own. A million light reflections pass over me. It's source is bright and endless. She resuscitates the hopeless. Without her we are lifeless satellites dreaming dreams. And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt. Don't want to be down here feeding my narcissism. I must crucify the ego before it's far too late. I pray the light lifts me out before I pine away.

Yes, it was sped up, but that doesn't change the fact that the songs follow an absolutely IDENTICAL pattern.

Yeah, same rhythm, same chords, same emphasis on the vocals. Same song.

Just because one was sped up a little bit to prove the sucking factor doesn't make the songs any different.

they're not that similar. just the verse chorus bridge pattern without any intro.
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.
