VH1's : I Love the 90's

Post by Joanne »

So anyone else as psyched about this as I am? (P.S. if there was a thread about this I'm seriously sorry, but I did check)

I loved the 90's, I guess it was because I grew up in that decade.

1. It's supposed to start on Sunday, July 11th at 11 AM, but I heard the the debute it on Monday, July 12 at 8 pm .... so just keep an eye out. I just checked Vh1 and right now it says July 11th, 11 AM and July 12th...

2. What was your favorite things, places, music, or icons in the 90's or possibly things that you push to the farthest corner of your mind?

Mine include (favorite) :

The music (not the boy bands, but the good rock/alternative like Nirvana)
Gumby and Pokey
My blue tie-dye shirt
Ex-squeeze me?
Playing Pogs everyday after school
and
RollerSKATING to "My Achy Breaky Heart" every wednesday night

MY regretful past:
Boy bands
Driving to Cincinati to see Hanson
Driving to Colmubus to see the Backstreet boys
Loving all types of one hit wonders including Eiffel 65 - Blue, Aqua - Barbie Girl, the Macarena.....

:D
Now that you know my past life .... and everything that I kept hidden for many years. Let's discuss.
Joanne

Most of the things I think about in the 90's were from the early 90's...so at least that's not too pathetic.

I was watching some old Seinfeld's the oher day.......oh my...it feels like a long time ago and it really wasn't.

Oh and, I never liked the Backstreet Boys/NSYNC/NKOTB I did like ONE song for about ten days. Until it was overplayed and that was the end of that. But I did like the Spice Girls...so I geuss that's really no better.

One of my favorite memories from the 90's was the two years that the Jazz were in the semifinals and finals. Those were good times. I actually got in a physical fight with a guy in my grade who insisted the Bulls were better.

i think early to mid-90's was the best time for music.
i miss: nirvana, smashing pumpkins, gin blossoms, no doubt, silverchair, green day, stp, sublime, everclear, our lady peace... oh and lisa loeb  and maybe another hundred that i'm forgetting right now but man, that was a good time for music.

Oh yes, I am SO PSYCHED. Mostly because I'm in love with Michael Ian Black and Hal Sparks....

But! The nineties were memorable. Lessee...

Seinfeld, X-Files, Simpsons (remember when it was good?), Titanic (HAHAHAHAHA! Everyone thought that was OMG LIEK TEH GRATEST MOVIE EVAH!), Monicagate!, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer (heh), when MTV actually played music videos, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Green Day, Counting Crows (okay, so I STILL listen to all that shit), when everyone had Rachel Hair (pfffft), Home Improvement, Bill Nye the Science Guy!, the macarena (pffffft again), Independence Day and all those other stoopid Will Smith movies, tamogatchi, furby, TICKLE ME FUCKING ELMO, The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast (the heyday of Disney cartoons that were actually GOOD), Backstreet Boys (pfffft squared), Hanson (pfff... well, you get the idea), Celine Dion, and also Columbine, OK City, the Unabomber, the Gulf War, and all that other shitty stuff.

Dammit, now I'm all nostalgic.

Am I the only one that noticed that Gumby was an 80s kind of thing? I mean, Eddie Murphy made fun of it back in 84, so it's clearly not a 90s thing.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Ok, sorry about that whole Gumby thing. I just remember that every morning when i was like 3, I would wake up and watch Gumby. So it's something that I remembered from the 90's. Again sorry. Plus to an extent I kid of agree that they should have waited longer to release I love the 90's, but it seems like they are doing a lot better with ratings and stuff. I'm sure they probably sat in a room and said "Hey, I bet those teens feel left out, let's make I love the 90's to attract more of a young audience...". But thats only my opinon, I still think it's cool that it's going to air.

Don't worry about chica......obviously the vast majority that post didn't even care to bother and point out stuff such as the whole Gumby thing. :uh:

I think that the most 90's thing about the 90's were a) Saved by the Bell and b)New Kids on the Block.

In my kindergarden picture I'm wearing a NKOTB sweater. I can still sing Step by Step.

Oh man. Can anyone else remember the old TGIF?? good times indeed.

Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.
