Not Afraid (album version)

Post by Lando »

I don't like how they have raine or someone else singing in the background at the same time as Raine is singing most of the time.

It's not bad, but it doesn't have the raw energy it used to like when it was live. They lyrics are alright though.

And what's with the chimes/xylophone?

Every now and then I fall out into open air just to feel the wind, rain and everything.
And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

I gathered as much.

But where did this actually come from? How'd we get it?

It was donated from a kind gentleman who got it from a Labatt Blue 28 pack which have free CDs in them. One is a 3 track olp album with Do You Like it (live) In repair (live) and the album version of not afraid.

ahh...

Well, this is horrible. Honestly. The guitar is trying to be all hardcore, but it's not quite getting there. Raine's voice just isn't up to snuff at all. The lyrics are absolutely horrible, and don't lead to anything good. It's like a really bad mix between pop (general crappiness), country (the structure and movement between notes in the vocals) and rock (the guitar - though, like I said, it doesn't quite get to where it's trying to go). This song just doesn't do it for me at all. The lyrics are so trite and redundant.

Honestly, what's the point of this song? Think about how the songs from the first four albums all had meaning and purpose - in the instruments, not just the lyrics. But this is just like sounds for the sake of making sound. I'm extremely disappointed with this.

I hope the rest of the album is better, but I really don't have a lot of hope left for that.

:(

I think it's an alright track, but it's nothing spectacular. Like I said I don't like the fact that it has a background voice singing it too. It kind of ruins the energy it could have and it's just not powerful enough.

Exactly. It just seems so lifeless. There isn't really anything about the track that strikes me as good.

Haven't listened to SOT in a long time. Don't really want to.

On first listen, I'd say it's about equal.

I mean, at least SOT had some energy (in the "I know you're out there, somewhere out there" line).

The one thing I do like about this track is the xylophone. The only problem is that it doesn't fit with the track at all.

Hmm.. I really don't know.

It's okay. It's rather dull, but.. bearable I suppose.

Obviously this is gonna be the first single then, right?
I guess we'll be hearing this album a little earlier than expected. I mean, they're not gonna do this free promo thing in June and then release the album in November or something. It must be ready to go now...

I hope the song grows on me slowly. It's not bad, it's just not super amazing. It could be that I'm desensitized from all the bad music that's out there though...

Yeah I'll blame it on that...

It was much more rockin' live. It sounds almost like they are missing an instrument or something...I can't put my finger on it.

Though it might be Mike. You never know.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

This song may not even end up on the album. Whatever, Dear Prudence, Needle and the Damage Done all never ended up on regular OLP albums, just compilations. It's an ok track. I'll have to listen to it a few more times before I pass judgement on it.
