Rachael Yamagata (and others)

Post by bovine »

I was first introduced to Rachael Yamagata's music when I heard her open for Damien Rice. A few days later I picked up her EP. Well, yesterday she just released her first full length! I know it's a bit early to be talking about the best music of the year, but so far, I would put this album in the top 3. The Bad Plus' album "Give" would have to be number one...then The Streets' "A Grand Don't Come For Free" and Rachael's "Happenstance" would be tied for second. Granted, that's just half the year gone by, but still, that says a lot. What's a shame is, I doubt if any of the three will make the "official" lists at the end of the year...great albums worth checking out though.

Brutus is an honorable man
It's just coincidence that oil men will wage war in an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

But Brutus is an honorable man...
