Are OLP heading in the right track?

Post by reza »

Do you think that OLP are heading in the right direction by making this a political album?

Political album is fine. Seems to be working for Matt Good. If it gets people to think about what is going on in the world and take some proactive action, then its a good thing.

 ditto.

But seriously, as far as the political thing goes, I think Raine and crew are quite politically aware, and should have no problem portraying their views musically without being too heavy-handed with the message. Personally, I'm stoked.
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

probably saying Political CD cause of WTSOYF and the last few interviews with Raine he has taken some kind of stance on issues out there today.

I don't mind Raine giving insight, but when i see a show I want to see a show. I don't want to be really bombarded with alot of political things. A little is okay, but there is an arena for that.

the other week Iwent to a rally that Bono spoke at. Afterwards I spoke to him. I didn't ask anything about U2 cause I felt I was talking to Bono the activist and not Bono the singer.

With Raine, I don't mind him saying go out and vote or doing the Warchild thing. I just don't want to be at a show and he is like YOu guys need to do this and this. There is a place for all of this.

I have my issues too. I can suggest, but I don't bombard people with it.

and to tell you the truth I kind of like that Raine is becoming a bit more political. (for lack of a better word) alot of younger people like OLP or read things on them. I feel he is opening up awhole word for people to see. Youdon't have to agree.

Mike Turner was like that for me. I feel he turned me on to things I migh tnot of looked at or heard of if he didn'tmention it.

i think it would be a good thing as long as it was pulled off with class, and without sacrificing your selves.
"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

And I'll just bring out the point that everyone is dying to say.

WE HAVEN'T HEARD THE FUCKING ALBUM.

Alright, I feel better now for saying that. In fact it's kind of a relief.

Yeah, I don't get the point of this conversation. We don't know what direction they are taking. Who has any proof that the songs we have heard over the summer are on the album? And who are we to judge their direction?

Yes I talked to Bono. I am a huge admirer/fan of his. This is his quote(in my sig)

I have a kind of sense that an artist is the kind of person who will break the bone in their chest and pull open the ribcage and be raw and be vulnerable even if that means you make a complete prick out of yourself. You may have spotted and followed that one! That map I found as a fan of John Lennon.

Poor cat... only gets its box cleaned once a year!

I hope there's some political stuff. Gravity was dumbed down. I want songs that make me think.

the reason i say this is because raine said that "The new album will be a product of the times."
i don't remember where i read this BUT I DID...unless i imagined it. he also said that his involvement with Warchild could also influence the sound/feeling of the new album.
