Human Cloning

Post by gavtodd71 »

Is it ethical do you think? It could be used to create superhumans that have an extended life. Or to cloan organs for those in need, removing organ doners lists. It could even be used to create tissue matches needed for treatments of fatal diseases?

If it could be used for things like creating tissues and organs then thats fantastic. If you ever needed a heart transplant, all they would have to do it grow one. No one would ever need to donate blood. Great Idea.

Though we probably shouldn't do it. We really are at a cross roads where science is doing things that we never imagined we would ever be able to do. But what are we accomplishing by making our lives lazier and easier?

Darwins theory of evolution says that species will weed out bad traits. Well we are really screwing that up. Plastic surgury makes sure no one can tell what your natural appearance is. Things like test tube babies take away from the whole point. Forcing a baby when there shouldn't be. I just don't think people understand that things they do to make their life easier are having reprocussions that arn't good for humanity.

Being able to genetically engineer humans may seem like a great idea, but its still not right.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

It's such a crazy topic, but overall I feel that it's a gray area. You can't just say yay or nay.

I took a whole class on this subject.

Conclusion: Cloning for stem cell research? Yay!
Cloning for reproduction? Nay!

(As a side note, due to the quirky aging of the telomeres on genes, it's probably not possible to clone anything viable for very long. Say you cloned from a 35-year-old person and made a baby. That baby's cells would start the aging clock at 35, and would be all whack, and it probably wouldn't live very long. That's a very bad description, but it's some interesting stuff. )

Cloning a full human - nope. so many other options that don't even border on immorality (adoption being numero uno)
Cloning for tissue and research - definately. but call it something other than cloning. that freaks people out, and changing it gets rid of any grey area when planning laws and whatnot.

It's totally ethical, because then I could have them grow me my body and when I'm like 80, transplant my brain into my 20 year old body!

Or have them clone me a bunch of playmates... that would be sweet.
