If you like folk music....
I have two artists for everyone to check out.
The first artist is Sufjan Stevens. Sufjan plays the banjo and makes some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. He has three albums out now, but his best album is "Greetings from Michigan, the Great Lakes State," where all the songs are about social issues occuring in Michigan. His most accessible album is "Seven Swans," mostly because the songs are shorter.
The second artist is Bonnie "Prince" Billy. He has like 13 other names (most common being Will Oldham) and he's come out with quite possibly the most stunning album I've ever heard in "I See A Darkness." The album is so stripped down and sincere, it just shocks you. Anyways, his album is so good that the immortal Johnny Cash covered the lead track off this album (I See A Darkness) and played it with Bonnie in the studio.
Anyways, if you want to check out some music that will pleasantly surprise you, check these guys out and you won't be disappointed.

Speaking of Michigan...
Daisy May is an awesome folk singer out of Big Rapids. She's opened up for Terri Clark and plays all over the area. She's got one of the best folk voices I've ever heard.

This has nothing to do with anything, but her father started the All Music Guide.
